Inaugural NJPW Strong Women’s Champion To Be Crowned, Mercedes Moné Set For Tournament

Next month, the inaugural NJPW Strong Women’s Champion will be crowned.

The NJPW Resurgence pay-per-view in Long Beach, CA, will feature a one-night tournament on Sunday, May 21. The winner will be the new NJPW Strong Women’s Champion.

Mercedes Moné will face Stephanie Vaquer in the first round, and Momo Kohgo will face Willow Nightingale. The winners of those two matches will face off in the finals later that night to determine the inaugural NJPW Strong Women’s Champion.

Moné was crowned the second IWGP Women’s Champion earlier this year, but she lost the title to Mayu Iwatani on April 23 at Stardom’s All Star Grand Queendom event. Nightingale is an AEW and ROH regular, while Kohgo is a Stardom regular. Vaquer is a CMLL regular who won the inaugural CMLL Occidente Women’s Tag Team Championship with Zeuxis.

The NJPW Resurgence pay-per-view is set for Sunday, May 21 from Long Beach, California’s Walter Pyramid. It will be broadcast live on NJPW World with English and Japanese commentary, and then later on NJPW Strong.

Will Ospreay vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
Winner will face Lance Archer in the finals at NJPW Dominion on June 4 with the winner challenging champion Kenny Omega at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on June 25.
