AEW’s Kenny Omega is the new IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion.

Omega defeated Will Ospreay in the co-main event of Wednesday’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 event to win the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title.

Don Callis joined Omega in the ring for the bout, which lasted more than 30 minutes. Ospreay took a DDT into an exposed turnbuckle during the bloody back and forth match, while Omega later had his eye swollen shut. Omega defeated Ospreay with Kota Ibushi’s finisher, the Kamigoye, followed by the One Winged Angel.

This is Omega’s second reign as champion. Ospreay won the vacant title at the Dominion 6.12 event on June 12 and began his first reign with the strap. He held the title for 206 official days.

Omega and Ospreay have been feuding to build to this match since an AEW angle from the summer, but the rivalry has existed for some time. This was Omega’s first NJPW match since losing the IWGP Heavyweight Title to Hiroshi Tanahashi in 2019 at Wrestle Kingdom 17.
