As previously noted, there was reportedly a backstage idea to turn Keith Lee heel and have Adam Cole be his manager but Cole said he wasn’t aware of the pitch. There was also a recent report about how Vince McMahon has considered turning him into a “monster heel.”
There continues to be speculation that Lee will still be turning heel. Lee tweeted about “change” on September 17th which fueled the speculation:

Lee hasn’t appeared on television in over a month but continues to wrestle at live events. At an event over the weekend, Lee was seen with facial hair again. While Lee did have a beard in NXT as a face, he’s been clean-shaven since making his WWE main roster debut.
