WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley will debut his “Foley Is Pod” podcast on Friday, June 3.
Foley’s new show will be produced in collaboration with Conrad Thompson and AdFreeShows.com, it was announced today. Thompson will co-host the show. Foley’s Hell In a Cell “retirement” match against Triple H at No Way Out 2000 will be the centerpiece of the first episode.
Foley is traveling an hour and a half every two or three weeks from his home outside Nashville to Thompson’s mortgage office in Huntsville, Alabama, to record all shows in person. When in town, Foley stays at a nearby hotel so that they may record three episodes every visit. The majority of Thompson’s other pro wrestling podcasts are taped remotely.
Around thirteen episodes have already been taped by Foley and Thompson. Foley wants to keep the trips going throughout the rest of the performance. The trips will also allow them to use a green screen, a boom mic, and 4K video to enhance the product for AdFreeShows.com subscription patrons, in addition to more organic live interactions with Thompson.
This has resulted in “some of the best podcasting that I’ve ever been a part of,” according to Thompson, and Foley has seen the results.
“It’s been a really natural chemistry and something I enjoy very much,” Foley told The Post. “Especially for those people who are in-depth fans who choose to get the video in addition to the audio, they will see the smile on my face is very genuine, and it’s very obvious that I enjoy doing the podcast.”
Foley added, “I realized I really enjoyed telling my stories on the stage across the country and different countries around the world. I think it just took a little bit of encouragement that there was a market for taking a stroll down memory lane through my career.”
Thompson said he hopes to take a more autobiographical approach to Foley’s show, which will cover his entire career, from WWE to WCW to ECW to TNA to Japan and the end of the territory days, as well as his other projects, including writing, shows, and movie appearances.
Thompson has stated that he is unconcerned about oversaturating a crowded podcast industry because “there’s something for everyone.” Foley’s unique career, already developed storytelling abilities, and the fact that he is a “genuinely wonderful guy” who fans adore and respect makes him the ideal wrestling podcast presenter, according to him.
“Man, it jumps off the screen how passionate he is about his career in the industry, and his recall is phenomenal,” Thompson added.
“I think one of the things that really helped me in my career is that fans felt they knew me and liked me not just as a character, but as a person,” Foley said. “Therefore, I think they will feel like they are spending some time with an old friend.”
