New Details On How The Rift Between CM Punk And Colt Cabana Started

For years, CM Punk and Colt Cabana were best friends, but that all changed after Punk’s appearance on Cabana’s “Art of Wrestling” podcast in November of 2014, which led to them being sued by WWE doctor Chris Amann for Punk’s comments.

There was a rumor at the time that the rift between them began after Cabana attended a WWE event. Following the lawsuit, Cabana sued Punk, claiming that Punk had broken his promise to cover his legal bills during the WWE doctor’s suit. Punk countersued Cabana and both lawsuits were eventually dismissed.

Dave Meltzer clarified on Wrestling Observer Radio that it wasn’t Cabana’s attendance at a WWE event that sparked the feud. While Punk and Cabana were being sued, Cabana was getting pizza with PAC (Neville at the time), Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn.

“Okay, so the show on Monday when we were talking about the irony of the Punk thing and the thing that started all of this, which was when Punk and Cabana had their falling out when Cabana going to the show. Anyways, I’ve been told that the story is essentially correct, but it wasn’t…Cabana didn’t go to a WWE show. He actually went out for pizza with Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and PAC a couple of years ago and that’s what caused the start of everything basically because he [Punk] felt that they shouldn’t have contact with anyone in WWE because of the lawsuit. Caban went for pizza with guys he’s known on the independent scene for years and years and was good friends with,” Meltzer stated.
