For the first time, SANADA has won the New Japan Cup.

SANADA defeated David Finlay in the tournament finals of today’s NJPW event in Niigata, Japan at the Ao-re Nagaoka Arena, using his new finisher, a modified DDT. Finlay of the Bullet Club threw a tantrum following the bout.

SANADA, the newest member of Just Five Guys, then cut a post-match promo with his trophy, commenting on his hometown victory. He then called out IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada to promote their title match on Saturday, April 8 at Sakura Genesis from Sumo Arena in Tokyo, Japan. Okada congratulated SANADA and stated that he had been waiting for him but was curious as to why it had taken so long. Okada went on to say that SANADA would never be able to defeat him. SANADA declared that Just Five Guys will be the dominant faction in NJPW, and that he will be the next IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.

SANADA won the 2023 New Japan Cup by defeating Taichi, NJPW Strong Openweight Champion KENTA, Tetsuya Naito, Mark Davis, and Finlay. Finlay advanced to the finals by defeating Tomohiro Ishii, Great-O-Khan, Shota Umino, and NEVER Openweight Champion Tama Tonga.
