AEW personality Tony Schiavone and Conrad Thompson recently spoke on their “What Happened When” podcast about a variety of professional wrestling topics including how he got injured before this past week’s Collision and Battle of the Belts:
“We did two hours of Collision and then an hour of Battle of the Belts 10 on Saturday and I thought it worked out quite well. We met with Tony Khan at about six and we stayed there until about 7:15. At 7:30 I go into the talent relations room which is where I stay. I reached down to look at something on my computer and there was a board hanging down and the board caught me in the head. Now I’m thinking, oh, I got a bump. I go in the bathroom and I take a piss in the bathroom. Now I feel something on my head. Now there’s blood streaming down my face. Now we’re talking about 30 minutes before air time. I’m reaching for the toilet paper. I got the suit on. I’m pissing, reaching for the toilet paper, and blood streaming down my face. I finally get some toilet paper in my hand, I put it up, and I go across to the room where the doctors are and they are patching me up. They patched me up as best they could. I ran over to makeup because there was blood in my scalp. They’re cleaning up my scalp and now it’s like 7:45. We gotta be out there at like 7:50. I go down the makeup and they’re fooling my hair. I did the interview with Thunder Rosa. As soon as I sit down, I get a text from JR that says, ‘You need a haircut fella’. I was very lucky that we had medical staff because it was pouring down my face. I did not need to get a stitch, but they had to put pressure on it.”
Tony Schiavone explained his facial reaction on Dynamite when the All In backstage footage was aired. Fans on social media misinterpreted his reaction as flashbacks to WCW’s final days, but Schiavone clarified that this was not the case:
“My facial reaction to what happened was me trying to put more heat on The Bucks for being assholes within the storyline itself. I did not have any reaction to the footage we saw because I don’t give a damn. I was not upset at the promotion. I was not upset at Tony Khan. I was not pissed off about what we had shown. I was trying to be fully in the moment of the angle which is The Bucks bitching about FTR not wanting to shake their hands and getting fu**ed around and everything. That’s what I was doing, but of course everybody wants to create their own story and that’s fine. That’s what social media is about. Social media is about idiots coming together and trying to come up with their own ideas.”
“I didn’t give a sh*t about the footage and still don’t. I don’t give a sh*t. I’m sincere when I say I don’t care. I don’t care. It has no impact on my life. Some people are saying, ‘The footage that you were showing is like the finger poke of doom moment for AEW.’ Well, you know what? That’s what you want it to be because you want to see us fail. I was in both companies. There’s absolutely no way that you can compare us to WCW. You can’t. You may want to. You may think you’re right. You’re wrong. You cannot compare us to WCW. I was there at both. You were not. So there’s that.”
