Update On WWE Blocking ROH From Running Event At MSG

As noted earlier on the site, WWE officials are said to be “very upset” about Ring of Honor running a live event at Madison Square Garden in 2019. WWE is reportedly “doing everything possible to block it.” This leads to Joe Koff saying this week that MSG backed out of the deal after WWE got involved and they will not be running the venue.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the planned ROH date at MSG was set to be a WrestleMania weekend show, the night before WrestleMania.

It only took one call from a high ranking WWE official (not from Vince McMahon) and Madison Square Garden pulled the date. ROH & MSG had agreed on the date, but no deal had been signed. ROH has been contacting other areas in the New York metropolitan area to run that night, but it was also noted that Sinclair was furious and legal proceedings could take place and were being explored.

Sinclair is upset because MSG had made it clear that it was looking for other wrestling promotions after WWE snubbed them for the big WrestleMania events.
