WWE Files Trademark for Jordan Devlin’s New Ring Name

Now that Jordan Devlin is returning to NXT, WWE has secured the trademark rights to his new ring name, JD McDonagh.

The WWE submitted a term applied to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on June 20 under the category of entertainment services. The summary is as follows:

“Mark For: JD MCDONAGH trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.”

Devlin joined WWE in 2016 and spent the first few years of his employment there working for the NXT UK brand. Devlin defeated Travis Banks, Isaiah Scott, and Angel Garza in a decisive four-way match at Worlds Collide in 2020 to win the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. He was unable to defend the championship due to the COVID-19 outbreak, thus WWE created an interim belt.

On Night 2 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, where he lost the championship to Santos Escobar, his nearly 400-day reign as NXT Cruiserweight Champion came to an end. He was reassigned to the NXT UK brand following that event.
