WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin was reportedly offered a WrestleMania 39 match against Brock Lesnar.

According to Fightful Select, WWE had pitched a “big opponent” for Austin, who ended up being Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. You can read that report by clicking here, which stated that the match would be for “enormous money.”

In an update, Wrestling Observer Radio reports that Austin vs. Lesnar was pitched for WrestleMania 39, not Austin vs. Reigns.

Austin vs. Lesnar is not currently scheduled, but that could change. The match had been discussed for several months.

When asked about the rumored match between Lesnar and current WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER, sources said it wasn’t the idea, but that the idea was a secret, and Austin was that secret.

PWMania.com previously reported how Lesnar returned on RAW 30 and assisted WWE United States Champion Austin Theory in retaining his title over Bobby Lashley in the main event. While not officially announced, Lesnar has been advertised for the Royal Rumble. Lesnar is now expected to compete in the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match with Lashley, who has been officially announced for the match. It remains to be seen whether Lesnar vs. Lashley will continue to WrestleMania 39, where their rubber match will take place.

The match between Austin and Lesnar has never taken place, but it has been teased and rumored at times over the years. Austin made his return to the ring at WrestleMania 38 last year, defeating Kevin Owens in a No Holds Barred match to headline Night 1.
