Backstage Update On WWE Night Of Champions Amid Middle Eastern Turmoil

WWE has not issued an official statement regarding the current situation surrounding its upcoming shows in Saudi Arabia. However, as PWMania.com previously reported, via Fightful Select, a high-ranking WWE official confirmed that the situation is being closely monitored.

As of now, talent is scheduled to depart mid-week on a charter flight to Riyadh for both Friday’s SmackDown and Saturday’s Night of Champions Premium Live Event. The report notes that WWE is securing a larger plane than usual to accommodate personnel for both events.

Sources in Saudi Arabia have indicated that preparations are progressing as planned. One individual described the atmosphere as “full steam ahead” as of Sunday afternoon local time, with no indications of delay or cancellation. They emphasized the financial stakes, particularly as WWE is scheduled to hold the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia in 2026. From a safety standpoint, one source stated that Saudi Arabia remains “one of the safest places in the world” and suggested that WWE had likely received firm reassurances.

In addition, PWInsider.com reports that WWE staff already present in Riyadh have continued their pre-production and event setup. Talent has not been informed of any potential changes. With travel scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 25th, WWE would need to decide very soon if it plans to alter, postpone, or cancel the shows. For now, the company is in “full build mode”, with fan events expected to be announced later this week.
