The unexpected twists surrounding R-Truth’s WWE status continue to spark debate—and now a longtime wrestling personality is weighing in.
Following R-Truth’s surprise appearance at the 2025 WWE Money in the Bank premium live event, where he attacked John Cena, former WCW and TNA ring announcer David Penzer shared his thoughts on social media, suggesting the entire situation may have been a planned storyline all along.
“My opinion is that this was a total work from the start and that they want everyone to believe it wasn’t so that talent doesn’t get their feelings hurt. My take, tell me why I’m wrong…” Penzer wrote on Twitter/X.

The comment follows widespread reports—including from PWInsider’s Mike Johnson—stating that R-Truth’s release was a legitimate internal mistake, later reversed after backstage backlash and fan reaction. Despite those reports, Penzer doubled down on his gut feeling in a follow-up post:
“After a bit of reflection I certainly don’t know the ‘truth’ about the Ron Killings ‘angle,’ just that my gut says work. Not my hill to die on, just my feeling. Problem for legitimate wrestling journalists is they are covering a business steeped in deception for centuries. Not an easy gig.”
