John Cena Talks About Hair Transplant, Cites Fan Bullying As Motivation

During a candid appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, WWE legend John Cena got personal—shedding light on a topic that’s long been the subject of fan scrutiny: his hairline.

When SmackDown commentator Michael Cole complimented Cena on his fuller-looking hair, Cena confirmed that he had undergone a hair transplant procedure last November, explaining, “You have to take the ones from the side and plug them in on top. It just takes a while to come in. It’s coming in. Hopefully, in a couple of months, it looks better. There’s another headline. Hair transplant. There is no shame in that. I have a problem, I try to fix it.”

Cena didn’t shy away from the reason behind the decision either—placing the blame squarely on WWE fans who had mocked his thinning hair in recent years.

“I just saw so many ‘bald spot’ signs,” Cena admitted. “Thank you for being so aware of my needs and emotions. You guys ripped me to shreds for a genetic problem I can’t control.”

He described the months following the procedure, revealing that the healing process made his hair loss even more noticeable in the short term. “You get the deal, and your hair falls out because the new ones have to grow, so the old ones fall out. January, February, I had it in November. That’s when I came half a skinhead.”

Cena, known for his thick skin and quick wit, took a moment to get real about the emotional toll of the constant jabs.

“You guys aren’t cool to me. I’m in the Rumble trying to win. ‘Man has a bald spot.’ That’s not fair. I can’t control that. It happens to seven out of ten dudes. One of you sons of bitches could’ve pulled me to the side. In unison, you chant and make me feel small and embarrass me. Y’all don’t know what that’s like. That is straight-up bullying and not cool. Thank you for bullying me into getting surgical hair replacement. That’s how far y’all pushed me.”

While Cena delivered the remarks with his trademark sarcasm and charisma, the segment offered a rare glimpse into the very human side of the 16-time World Champion.
