NJPW Independence Day Night 2 Results – July 5, 2023

6 Man Tag Team Match
Six Or Nine (Ryusuke Taguchi & Master Wato) & Boltin Oleg vs. Dragon Libre, Takahiro Katori & Rekka (Pre Show)

Ryusuke Taguchi & Rekka starts this match off before Boltin Oleg enters to face Katori and he taunted Takahiro Katori by holding the stuffed rabbit.

Katori was able to grab the rabbit and he hit an enzuigiri on Taguchi before Dragon Libre finally tags in and hits some quick offence. Rekka hit a running kick in the corner on Master Wato then a missile dropkick for a near fall.

Wato fired back with a leg lariat then he mousetrapped the arms for a Recientemente II and a near fall before he hits Tsutenkaku German Suplex for the win.

Oskar Leube hits a powerslam for a near fall before Satoshi Kojima hits a Stunner follow by the Lariat to get the win.

Tag Team Match
Catch 22 (TJP & Francesco Akira) vs. Homicide & Ryohei Oiwa

TJP & Homicide starts this match off with some mat reversals then Francesco Akira & Ryohei Oiwa enters and he tied Oiwa in a knot on the mat then Homicide made the hot tag and he hit repeated shoulder tackles into TJP’s ribs in the corner.

Homicide hit a t bone suplex on TJP and 3 Amigos before Oiwa snuck in and hits a double dropkick. TJP hit a tornado DDT on Homicide then Akira tags in and battles Oiwa. Oiwa hits a gutwrench suplex for a near fall.

Homicide tied TJP in an STF but he escapes then Catch 22 hit their team X Factor on Oiwa for a near fall before they connect with 2/2 for the win.

Before the match Rocky Romero got on the mic and congratulated Bullet Club on their win and he asked that this match be a Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Title match. Bullet Club initially said no but then agreed.

Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles Match
Bullet Club (Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney) (c) vs. Chaos (Rocky Romero & Yoh)

Bullet Club attacks Chaos at the bell then both teams brawl to the floor. In the ring Chaos hits a double team suplex before Bullet Club began working over Yoh. Yoh hits a dragon screw on Drilla Moloney then a dropkick on Clark Connors and he finally made the hot tag to Rocky Romero & hits a hurricanrana on Bullet Club.

Chaos hit simultaneous knee strikes on Moloney before Romero hit a Lungblower and Yoh hits a Falcon Arrow and he was fired up. Bullet Club hits a high low spear move on Romero then goes for the cover but Yoh made the save.

Romero hit an assisted top rope Sliced Bread for a near fall. Connors spears Yoh & Moloney hit a double stomp on Romero’s chest. Romero avoids a spear from Connors and he got a backslide for a near fall. Connors hit a powerslam. Romero hit a mid-ring Sliced Bread.

Chaos hits 3K for a near fall before Yoh accidentally superkicks Romero then Connors nails No Chaser on Yoh before Moloney hits Romero with Drilla Killa then he held Romero upside down and Connors hits Full Clip on Romero for the win.

Winners & Still Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions: Bullet Club (12:05) (STILL CHAMPIONS!!!!)

Tag Team Match
TMDK (Bad Dude Tito & Kosei Fujita) vs. Lance Archer & Alex Zayne

Bad Dude Tito demanded to start against Lance Archer and he slaps Archer & that just ticked Archer off. Tito tries some shoulder tackles that had no effect. Kosei Fujita hits a belly 2 belly on Alex Zayne then Tito got back in and connects with a series of chops on Zayne.

Tito hits a German Suplex on Zayne for a near fall before Archer made the hot tag and he hit running back elbows in the corner on TMDK. Archer again grabs Zayne by the throat & that helps him to hit a moonsault.

Zayne & Fujita fought in the corner and Zayne hits a leaping hurricanrana out of the corner. Archer hits a Black Hole Slam on Tito for a near fall. Zayne hit his forward roll kick to the back of Fujita’s neck and Archer immediately hits Fujita with a Lariat for the win.

Winners: Lance Archer & Alex Zayne (9:31)

After the match Archer got on the mic and said today, he celebrates his 23rd year as a professional wrestler. He dubbed their team Murder Sauce and he vowed they will be back.

6 Man Tag Team Match
NEVER Openweight 6 Man Tag Team Champions Tomohiro Ishii & Hiroshi Tanahashi & The DKC vs. Team Filthy (Tom Lawlor, Royce Issacs & Jorel Nelson)

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Jorel Nelson kicks this match off before Tomohiro Ishii & Tom Lawlor traded forearms and Lawlor switched to spin kicks to the thigh then Ishii hits a shoulder tackle. The DKC enters and hits some chops on Lawlor and he locks an Ankle Lock. Lawlor applied a Triangle Choke.

Royce Issacs held The DKC upside down on the floor and he walks entirely around the ring before slamming him to the ground back in the ring Team Filthy works over The DKC. Nelson hits a Pounce then Lawlor hits Yes Kicks that drops The DKC.

Ishii finally made the hot tag and he traded shoulder tackles with Issacs. Issacs hits a 2nd rope flying shoulder tackle and a roaring forearm that drops Ishii. Isaacs hit a German Suplex but Ishii pops up and hit his own then Isaacs pops up and they hit clotheslines and both collapsed.

Tanahashi tags in and hit a dragon screw on Team Filthy then Nelson hits a dive to the floor. In the ring Lawlor hits a Falcon Arrow for a near fall. Royce hit a German Suplex on Tanahashi and a running knee for a believable near fall before we had an exchange that ends with Tanahashi getting a small package on Isaacs for the win.

Winners: NEVER Openweight 6 Man Tag Team Champions Tomohiro Ishii & Hiroshi Tanahashi & The DKC (13:10)

Strong Women’s Title Match
Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Giulia

Giulia immediately hit some forearm shots on Willow Nightingale then she went for a armdrag but Nightingale blocks it. Giulia tried grounding her with a headlock. Nightingale hits a Spinebuster for a near fall. Giulia tried a body slam but Giula’s legs buckling and Nightingale getting a near fall then Nightingale hits a fisherman’s suplex for a near fall.

Giulia hit a DDT then she locks an STF but Nightingale was right in front of the ropes and grabbed it. Giulia hit a top rope missile dropkick for a near fall. Nightingale nails Pounce and was fired up before she hits a rolling cannonball in the corner and a Death Valley Driver for a near fall.

Giulia blocks Babe With The Powerbomb attempt but Nightingale hits a Buckle Bomb for a near fall but she misses a top rope moonsault. Giulia locks in a Rings Of Saturn style double armbar but Nightingale reached the ropes. Giulia hits a hammerlock DDT then they began trading open hand slaps with Giulia getting the better of the exchange.

Nightingale hits a clothesline but Giulia pops back up but Nightingale hits a 2nd clothesline for a near fall. Giulia got a Code Red for a near fall then a Saito Suplex for a near fall. Willow hit a kick to the jaw.

Giulia nails a top rope butterfly suplex for a near fall then a knee strike to the collarbone then she drills Nightingale to the mat with Northern Lights Bomb to score the win.

Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & Yoshi Hashi) (c) vs. Strong Openweight Tag Team Champions Bullet Club War Dogs (Gabriel Kidd & Alex Coughlin)

Bishamon & Bullet Club War Dogs immediately brawl on the floor before getting in the ring once they got in the ring and the bell sounded as Hirooki Goto whips Alex Coughlin into the guardrail then in the ring Coughlin hits a chop on Goto.

Coughlin hits a pair of gutwrench suplexes on Goto for a near fall then Goto hits a spinning clothesline. Yoshi Hashi made the hot tag and battles Gabriel Kidd as he hits a basement dropkick as Kidd was tied upside down in the ropes.

Bullet Club War Dogs hits a double team Muscle Buster on Yoshi Hashi for a near fall and they argued with the referee. Kidd sets up for the Hijack Piledriver but Yoshi Hashi broke free.

They traded clotheslines and Kidd bites Yoshi Hashi’s forehead before Goto hits a neckbreaker over his knee and Bishamon hits Shoto to get the win.

Strong Openweight Title Match
Kenta (c) vs. Eddie Kingston

Kenta slaps Eddie Kingston in the face then immediately ran to the floor then in the ring Kingston hits a suplex and a chop that sent Kenta again to the floor. Kingston follows and he accidentally chops the ring post. Kenta immediately tied Kingston’s right arm in the guardrail.

In the ring Kingston hits some back suplexes but was selling the pain in his right arm before the ref got bumped so Kenta got the Strong Openweight Title but Kingston cuts him off so Kingston hands the Strong Openweight Title to an attendant at ringside. Kenta grabs a different title and nails Kingston with it.

Kenta hits a top rope double stomp to the chest for a near fall then Kingston locks in Stretch Plum but Kenta reached the ropes. Kenta blocks Backfist To The Future and hits his own Backfist To The Future then some open hand slaps to the face.

Kenta hits a Shining Wizard for a near fall then Kingston fires back with an enzuigiri and a Backfist To The Future then a 2nd one for a near fall then Kingston hits a 3rd Backfist To The Future and a clothesline for a near fall then some kicks to the face.

Kingston nails a 4th Backfist To The Future then nails Kenta to the mat with Northren Lights Bomb to get the win.

Winner & New Strong Openweight Champion: Eddie Kingston (13:30) (NEW CHAMPION!!!!!)

Final Death Match
Jon Moxley vs. El Desperado

Jon Moxley & El Desperado brawl to start this match off and Moxley dove through the ropes before Desperado hits him over the head with trash can lids then they brawl up into the crowd in corners of Korakuen Hall. Moxley tossed Desperado off a short stage onto a table on the floor but the table didn’t break so Moxley puts Desperado onto the table and jumps on him but it again didn’t break.

They continued to brawl on the floor, and Moxley hit a body slam across open chairs then he puts Desperado’s ankle in a folded chair and jumped off the apron onto it then they got in the ring where Moxley repeatedly stabs Desperado with a fork before he whips Desperado into the barbed wire board.

Moxley hits a piledriver for a near fall then they went to the floor where Moxley pulls out a guitar plays it for a second then nails Desperado over the head with a guitar. Desperado whips Moxley into a different barbed wire board. He got a chair and he slams it against the board still lying against Moxley’s back. Desperado hits a top rope frog splash for a near fall.

Desperado grabs a bouquet of roses but he had a cheese grater hidden inside and he uses it across Moxley’s forehead then Desperado sets up a table on the floor and put the barbed wire board on it. They fought on the ring apron and both crashed backward onto the table.

Desperado wraps barbed wire around his fist so Moxley does the same then they got on their knees and traded punches in the center of the ring then Desperado pulls out a bag of skewers then he hands half of them to Moxley as they simultaneously planted the skewers on the top of each of their heads.

They traded forearm shots and Moxley hit a stunner for a near fall. Moxley switched to the elbow strikes to the side of the head then he switched to cranking back on Desperado’s head. Desperado blocks Death Rider and he hits Pinche Loco for a near fall.

Desperado nails Jay Driller then he went for another Pinche Loco but Moxley blocks it and Moxley nails Death Rider for a near fall before Moxley hits a Curb Stomp to the head but Desperado pops to his feet then Moxley immediately hits a 2nd Death Rider for the win.

Winner: Jon Moxley (20:33)

After the match Moxley got on the mic and said when I’m in Japan I’m the king of NJPW. He asks the crowd if they realize what a special thing they have here, and he calls Korakuen Hall the heartbeat of professional wrestling and everyone around the world knows it. He said he was baptized in fire at Korakuen Hall a couple years ago. A piece of my heart will always be here in Tokyo.
