Indy Star Tim Donst Talks About Best & Worst Things In The Wrestling Business, Indies, WWE & More

Indy Star Tim Donst recently took some time to participate in an exclusive interview with PWMania.com. Donst is best known for his time in Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW), Chikara and Dragon Gate USA. He is known for his amateur wrestling background, which became the focal point of his gimmick. He is also a former one-time AIW Absolute Champion and holder of the Young Lions Cup. Donst talks about the best and worst thing in the wrestling business, WWE and TNA, indy wrestling and more. Check out the complete interview below:

First of all thank you for taking the time to sit down with PWMania.com. What was it that first inspired you to become a professional wrestler and who are some of your idols?

I was drawn towards the theatrics and athleticism. I have a soft spot in my heart for all different styles and people. Everyone from The Rock to Terry Funk. I even love deathmatch stuff.

What has been the most satisfying moment of your career thus far?

Honestly, it’s probably whatever I experienced last because the industry moves to fast and those moments are few and far between. Four years ago I would have said winning Chikara’s Young Lions Cup. 2 years ago I would have said my match with Hallowicked with my hair on the line or the one with Brian Kendrick for AIW. Right now, I might say the fan reaction for Michael Hutter (EC3) vs. myself at AIW’s Absolution as the fans made the atmosphere so unique. SMV had to actually lower the camera feed because the crowd was overpowering the commentating!

In your opinion, what are the best and worst things about the wrestling business?

The best – Fan interactions, creative freedom, travel and friendship with people you wouldn’t normally associate yourself with.

The worst – politics, backstabbing and everything else.

How much of your matches you do like to plan in advance?

None.

What are your thoughts on indy wrestling today and what could make the indy scene better?

I think indy wrestling is become cool again. Non-WWE fans are checking out various promotions and sticking to them. There’s a cool underground scene slowly building. Indy scene could use more exposure.

What are your thoughts on WWE and TNA? Is signing with one of the companies a goal of yours?

I’ve been a fan of WWE all my life. I have a lot of friends in TNA but I’ll go wherever I feel like going at the time.

In your opinion, who are the best and the most underrated stars in the business today?

Aaron Williams is probably a name many aren’t familiar with who is incredible. I think American Tiger will become a force to be reckoned with.

When you are not wrestling, what do you like to do?

Think about wrestling.

What’s next for Tim Donst?

My goal is to win best of the best by being the worst of the worst.

Everyone here at PWMania.com wishes you the best of the luck for the future. Thanks again for taking the time to sit down with PWMania.com. Do you have any final messages to say to our readers?
