According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Masha Slamovich was always intended to debut at the Major League Wrestling (MLW) television tapings in Charleston, South Carolina, and win the MLW Women’s Featherweight Championship, even before Tessa Blanchard was removed from the promotion’s September 12 event.
The report also noted that MLW had considered having Blanchard eventually win the championship before her withdrawal from Fightland. A source close to the situation told the publication that Blanchard’s public statements about wanting the title were more significant than standard interview comments. Additionally, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that MLW had reached an agreement earlier in the summer for Slamovich to join the heel faction Contra Unit. Despite the situation with Blanchard, it was also noted that the working relationship between CMLL and MLW is expected to continue.
Blanchard’s removal followed uncertainty regarding her scheduled MLW debut. The former TNA star had been announced for Fightland on September 12, but CMLL later clarified that her agreement was limited to that specific appearance. Blanchard was originally set to face Lady Frost. MLW subsequently removed promotional material featuring Blanchard and announced that she would wrestle Starlight Kid in Mexico City on the same date. The reasons behind this change have not been publicly confirmed.
