PWMania.com previously reported that AEW commentator and part-time in-ring competitor Nigel McGuinness was announced to have suffered an injury during his Continental Challenge Cup Tournament First Round Match on last week’s episode of Collision. While McGuinness is still participating in the Challenge Cup, he is reportedly unable to compete in his ROH Pure Championship Match at tonight’s ROH Death Before Dishonor.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed the situation, stating that the injury is part of the storyline. Alvarez mentioned that during McGuinness’ match against Hechicero on last Wednesday night’s Dynamite, McGuinness was not actually hurt; he simply taped up his boot. Alvarez noted that Hechicero even started to take the tape off McGuinness’ boot, which seemed unusual.
Meltzer added that it was apparent McGuinness wasn’t hurt. It’s worth mentioning that Meltzer had previously reported that the injury was legitimate.
