Legendary pro wrestling commentator Mike Tenay was nearly part of the broadcast team for the recent WWE x AAA Worlds Collide eventโbut the highly anticipated return didnโt materialize.
According to Dave Meltzer in the F4WOnline Daily Update, WWE did reach out to Tenay about working the historic crossover show. While early reports had hinted that his name was under consideration, itโs now confirmed that official discussions took place. However, the two sides ultimately couldnโt come to terms financially, and Tenay did not appear on the broadcast.
Tenay, a widely respected figure in wrestling media circles, has been retired from commentary since his departure from TNA Wrestling in 2016. Despite periodic interest from multiple promotions over the yearsโincluding WWE, TNA, GCW, and AAAโTenay has reportedly declined all offers, opting to remain in retirement.
His potential involvement in Worlds Collide would have been especially meaningful. Tenay made his WCW commentary debut at AAAโs original โWhen Worlds Collideโ pay-per-view in 1994, a performance that launched his storied career with WCW and later as the iconic voice of TNA.
While fans didnโt get to hear Tenay behind the desk this time, the near-miss serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy he holds in wrestlingโs broadcast history.
