WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker recently appeared on Mighty with Demetrious Johnson, where he talked about a number of topics including trying to get noticed in WCCW.
Undertaker said, โSo, every Wednesday I would go to the offices or where they had the wrestling and I would sit in the lobby. And Iโd sit there and like the booker โ the one who made all the decisions โ he would come in and Iโd go to stand up; he would never stop. They just walk right by meโฆ I would like sit there every week and I was like โMan โ โand I was at my witโs end. Like, I was like โThis isnโt working. I donโt know what else Iโm gonna do.โ And it was probably one of the last couple of times that I was going to make this trip because I couldnโt even afford the gas anymore.โ
On running into Von Erich:
โWho walks through the door? It was Fritz Von Erich. And he was the one that owned the company and did all that. Hereโs the thing: he walks in, and so heโs standing at the door and heโs staring at meโฆ And I can hear him like he said โNo, this kidโs been coming for months, heโs just trying to get a โ heโs just trying to get a booking.โ And Fritz? He just had a really deep gravelly voice and I heard him say โLetโs book him Friday night.โ Itโs crazy.โ
On getting booked:
โAnd he said โLetโs book him. He looks like David.โ And I hear that, you know, and then he came by, and get up again, and he walks right by me. But I showed up and that was the start and so I showed up Friday night and so I was โTexas Red.โ That was the first name, the first time I got a paycheck.โ
