WWE Hall of Famer Booker T discussed various topics on his Hall of Fame podcast, including the company’s decision to abruptly end John Cena’s heel turn right before SummerSlam.

Booker T said, โ€œI really think [Brock Lesnarโ€™s return] is all about John Cena not being a heel. I said this. I said, โ€˜John Cena is not a heel.โ€™ He canโ€™t even play a good heel. He tries to make his face look like heโ€™s mad. And you know itโ€™s not real. You know there is nowhere near โ€” thatโ€™s not him.โ€

He continued, โ€œI thought the babyface turn was John Cena just saying, โ€˜Hey man, letโ€™s just course correct, and get back on pace. We know Brock Lesnar is coming back. Iโ€™ll be able to do something with that on the way out.โ€™โ€

On Cena vs. Cody Rhodes:

โ€œBut what I loved about that match was โ€” I donโ€™t know, I could be wrong. But it seemed like Cody Rhodes told John Cena, โ€˜Hey, bro, donโ€™t worry about me tonight. Just do it. Donโ€™t think about it. Just do it. Donโ€™t try to protect me. Just do it.โ€™ And it seemed like it was that way throughout the night, it seemed like with everybody. But specifically in that match, it seemed like Cody told John Cena, โ€˜Bro, just do it. You can apologize later.โ€™ Thatโ€™s the way it seemed to me, because John was bringing it, man.โ€

He added, โ€œI mean, he was throwing Cody all over that place. And it seemed like he had no problem doing it. Seemed like he had no care in the world. It seemed like โ€” it wasnโ€™t a wrestling match. It seemed like it was a good fight.โ€
