Mercedes Martinez is seeking financial assistance to cover surgery and rehabilitation expenses after suffering a torn ACL in her right knee.

Martinez launched a GoFundMe campaign on September 7 with a $25,000 fundraising goal following the injury that brought her farewell tour and in-ring career to an unexpected end.

In her fundraising statement, Martinez explained that she is currently uninsured and must pay for the surgery before it can be scheduled.

Funds raised through the campaign will also help cover medication, physical therapy and living expenses while Martinez is unable to work during her recovery.

As previously reported, Martinez announced on August 27 that the ACL injury had forced her to end her farewell tour earlier than planned and effectively brought her lengthy in-ring career to a close.

While Martinez doesn’t expect to return to the ring, she hopes her involvement in professional wrestling will continue once she has recovered.

“I hope that once I’m healed, I can continue to be part of this business in a non-in-ring capacity.”

Martinez’s career has spanned more than two decades and included runs with WWE, AEW, ROH and numerous independent promotions.

Her immediate focus will now be undergoing surgery and completing the rehabilitation process before potentially beginning the next chapter of her wrestling career outside the ring.
