CM Punk Apologizes To Saudi Arabia For Infamous 2020 “Blood Money” Tweet

During the WWE Night of Champions Kickoff Show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, CM Punk publicly addressed one of the most controversial moments of his career, issuing a heartfelt apology to the people of Saudi Arabia. The apology stemmed from a now-infamous 2020 tweet in which Punk, responding to The Miz, used inflammatory language referencing Saudi Arabia.

Standing in the Kingdom Arena, Punk acknowledged the backlash and took full responsibility for the remark. “Legitimately had nothing to do with Saudi Arabia. I woke up crabby and I wrote a mean tweet to The Miz and I apologised to The Miz,” Punk began. “And I sincerely apologise to all of Saudi Arabia. I’m not perfect by any means. Sometimes, as human beings, we screw up. The beautiful thing is everything is a lesson learned.”

He continued, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to perform in the country: “Now here I am, and you’ve invited me into your country and I’m grateful to be here. Thank you very much.”

The original tweet, deleted shortly after it was posted in 2020, had long cast doubt on whether Punk would ever appear at a WWE event in Saudi Arabia. With this public address, Punk not only sought to close that chapter but also to connect with the Saudi WWE fanbase just hours before his highly anticipated Undisputed WWE Championship match against John Cena.
