Recent reports surrounding Britt Bakerโs AEW status have caused a stir online, with conflicting claims about whether the former AEW Womenโs World Champion is actively seeking to leave the company. The rumor mill kicked off last week when Bodyslam.net reported that Baker was โactively seeking to part ways with AEW.โ However, Fightful.com countered the report, stating that every source they contacted denied those claims.
During a media call promoting AEW All In: Texas, AEW President Tony Khan addressed the speculation directly when asked about Bakerโs current role and any potential talks of departure.
โIโve never had a conversation about Britt departing AEW,โ Khan stated. โI like Britt a lot.โ
Khan went on to compare the structure of AEWโs roster to team sports, emphasizing the importance of managing limited screen time across a deep talent pool.
โOn a baseball team, you use nine players at a time. In the NFL, you can put 11 in at a timeโฆ Pro wrestling is unique because you can use a different number of people, but there are still only so many slots to fit into a show. We havenโt used everybody, and there are some really talented people on our bench that we can call in that would be a great part of the show.โ
Using Britt Baker as a specific example, Khan reiterated his support and hinted that her absence from television doesnโt mean sheโs out of the picture.
โBritt is a great example of somebody that is very talented and we could utilize in AEW with the right situation and at the right time,โ he said. โJust like in pro sports, when you have really talented people that arenโt necessarily starting every game โ that doesnโt mean they wonโt be starting in the future. It makes sense for me to look at the AEW roster like a sports team and try to manage the minutes and rotation.โ
While Baker hasnโt been featured on AEW programming in recent weeks, Khanโs comments suggest that she remains an integral part of the roster โ simply waiting for the right creative moment to step back into the spotlight.
