Last year, AEW introduced the Devil character alongside MJF at All Out to claim an AEW World Title shot before revealing he was the one behind the mask. After CM Punk’s title was stripped, he won it back from Jon Moxley.
The Devil has resurfaced in recent weeks, attacking Jay White, The Acclaimed, and Billy Gunn. While the babyfaces teamed with MJF on television, White has been feuding with him.
Fans are still left with unanswered questions about the Devil. There has been speculation that the person who will be revealed to be behind the mask is not currently playing the part. WWE did something similar with the Retribution group years ago.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, several people within the company are aware of the identities of those who have previously portrayed the character but have done well in keeping it quiet.
According to those they spoke with, it is not CM Punk, and “it would be a huge work on those in the know if so.” Dr. Britt Baker DMD was also ruled out as being behind the mask.
