Billy Gunn Wants To Face Will Ospreay In His Retirement Match

AEW star โ€œDaddy Assโ€ Billy Gunn recently spoke with Chris Van Vliet on a number of topics, including how he wants to face current AEW International Champion “The Aerial Assassin” Will Ospreay in his retirement match.

Gunn said, โ€œI donโ€™t know what it is about that kid. I love him, I tell everybody thatโ€™s my retirement match. When I retire itโ€™s me and Will, and he just said on some media scrum that heโ€™s in AEW to retire me. Because his work really isnโ€™t me. Itโ€™s so opposite of me. But I love him. Heโ€™s good. Heโ€™s very energetic. Just the stuff he does is amazing. Heโ€™s so athletic and could do so much stuff. But he has charisma with it and heโ€™s very good at that. And I love that, I donโ€™t know I just love that kid.โ€

On how he wonโ€™t have a 25-minute classic with Ospreay but can still bring something different to the table:

โ€œI mean, Iโ€™m not gonna go out there and go 25 minutes with Will [Ospreay], that ainโ€™t happening. But do I still have equity in the company? Can I still bring something? Damn right. I can because the minute I step out there those people go nuts and they start saying my name. So as long as I bring value and itโ€™s not, you know, if I go out there and they go, Oh, God really? The first time I hear that Iโ€™ll quit. But as long as I can do something to help The Acclaimed or help the company or help my kids. Yeah, Iโ€™ll stay around. Thereโ€™s no reason I canโ€™t. I have no problem just being The Acclaimedโ€™s sidekick. I love it. Because I get to run around talk to people act like a goofball interact when I want to and work every now and then.โ€

On when he plans on retiring from pro wrestling:

โ€œI wish I knew, I donโ€™t feel too bad. But a lot of it is the way that I take care of myself. I mean, yeah, do I wake up and everything until I get moving? Yeah. I just found out I have two stress fractures in my back, but they donโ€™t stop me from doing what I do, it doesnโ€™t hinder me. But I can still do what I do at a pretty good level. I mean, Iโ€™m not gonna go out there and go 25 minutes with Will [Ospreay], that ainโ€™t happening. But do I still have equity in the company? Can I still bring something? Damn right I can, because the minute I step out there those people go nuts and they start saying my name. I love it. Because I get to run around, talk to people, act like a goofball, interact when I want to and work every now and then. When I work itโ€™s nothing crazy. My kids asked me that they go โ€˜Did you just take a triple powerbomb? What are you thinking?!โ€™ I went โ€˜I thought it would help the match.โ€™ [They go] โ€˜Okay, donโ€™t ever do that again!โ€™ I said okay. Well, I thought in my head it did. But as long as I can do that and I feel good and itโ€™s not a struggle. The only thing that is a struggle is flying these days. Because I hate it. Yeah, but I mean, as long as Iโ€™m still having fun in doing what I do, and I can bring something to help Iโ€™m in, Iโ€™m good.โ€
