Greg Gagne Says It Was Tough Growing Up As Verne Gagne’s Kid

Pro wrestling legend Greg Gagne recently appeared on an episode of the Greg & Magnum podcast, where he talked about a number of topics including how he is really honored to be inducted into the George Tragos/Lou Thesz 2024 Hall of Fame.

Greg Gagne said, โ€œIโ€™m really honored. I got a little emotional when I saw it. It is really an honor because growing up the way I did, everybody was like, โ€˜He was the favorite. Heโ€™s Verneโ€™s kid. Heโ€™s Verneโ€™s kid. Heโ€™s Verneโ€™s kid.โ€™โ€

โ€œI took a lot of crap for that over the years, but I think I made my own individual, you know, I got with the people. I donโ€™t even know what to say about it anymore. It was tough growing up in that environment and everybody compared me to him. My father said, โ€˜Youโ€™re not following in your fatherโ€™s footsteps. Youโ€™re making your own footsteps. Be yourself and create your own personality.โ€™ I think thatโ€™s what I was able to do.โ€

โ€œI wasnโ€™t the biggest guy, but I had a lot of fire and knew how to get my opponents over and get myself over. I am very fortunate and very honored to be inducted into that Hall of Fame.โ€
