WWE Hall of Famer JBL appeared on an episode of “Something to Wrestle” with Bruce Prichard, where he discussed various topics, including his thoughts on Vince Russo potentially becoming the head of WWE Creative.
JBL said, “Zero. Now look, when you have creative, you bring in guys with all kinds of different ideas. So if they brought him in, I think something like that could make sense. Because when you’re doing creative you want every type of input you can get, and if Vince Russo had input, he would be able to bring all kinds of stuff. Maybe the ideas worked, maybe they didn’t work. But when you’re pitching ideas to creative people, sometimes you pitch something and they end up somewhere else — but they got there because of what you pitched. So to bring Russo in or something like that, I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility. Would he be the head of creative? No, I don’t think so. My opinion is that Triple H and Nick Khan are doing a great job.”
On why he doesn’t expect any changes:
“I don’t think it will happen. I think they’ve got to be happy. I know creative is subjective, but they’re selling out big-ass arenas. They’re making a ton of money. What more do you want? I understand you can always get something better. And these guys have got 50 hours of television a week. I’m exaggerating, but you get the point. They’ve got so many things that they’ve got to try, and some things are definitely not going to work. The same with Vince, the same with Jim Crockett, the same with Eddie Graham, the same with Fritz. But what you have to look at is the overall trend, and the overall trend for WWE is absolutely fantastic. So I think Nick Khan and Hunter are doing a terrific job. I think Jeremy Borash and Undertaker are lighting it on fire down at AAA.”
On WWE reaching out to Vince Russo:
“It makes perfect sense. Vince used to call guys all the time, and he’s the one that helped train Hunter. I’m sure Hunter and Nick Khan do the same thing. There are no wrong answers out there. When we talk about creative, you check a million different things to see what works. So I think it makes sense that they called Vince Russo.”
On whether he or Russo is more likely to join WWE creative:
“I would think I would have a better chance. I don’t think there’s any chance I will, but I think I’d have a better chance than Vince.”
