It’s that time of year again, professional wrestling fans. Our Super Bowl is once again upon us. On Saturday night, April 6th, WWE held Night 1 of the biggest event of the year, WrestleMania 40. The show was headlined by a great tag team match which saw The Rock and Roman Reigns take on Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins.

However, the fun didn’t stop there. We also saw the likes of Rhea Ripley defend her title against Becky Lynch, Jimmy & Jey Uso engage in an Uso Civil War, the tag team titles six-pack tag team match, and so much more. So, what were the top three moments of the show?

Honorable Mention: Jade Cargill’s Successful WrestleMania Debut

On Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, Jade Cargill teamed with Naomi and Bianca Belair to take on Damage CTRL (Asuka, Dakota Kai, & Kairi Sane). This match was a lot of fun and a great way to showcase Cargill to the WWE fans. With Naomi and Belair by her side, Cargill was in good company. She got the pinfall and victory for her team when she pinned Kai.

Cargill looked good in this match, despite not having a long showing. With that said, it was the perfect way to show her to the new fanbase. The match to make down the line is surely to be Cargill vs. Belair, but it’s good that they didn’t rush into doing that. Ultimately, this was a very successful debut for Cargill.

Top 3 Moments of Night 1 of WrestleMania 40

3. Undisputed Tag Team Championships are no more

On Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, we saw a six-pack tag team match for Judgement Day’s Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships. This featured the likes of the Judgement Day (Damian Priest & Finn Balor), A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory & Grayson Waller), Awesome Truth (R-Truth & The Miz), New Catch Republic (Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate), DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa), & The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods).

The match was fun and chaotic in the best way possible. A-Town Down Under would take down the SmackDown Tag Team Championships about halfway through the match. This would then lead to R-Truth taking down the Raw Tag Team Championships. Ultimately, the decision to split the tag team titles in a tag team division that recently found its depth is a great idea. The two correct teams won too, and this is surely to lead to more opportunities.

2. Sami Zayn wins the Intercontinental Championship

Also, on Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, Sami Zayn looked to do the unthinkable and defeat GUNTHER for his Intercontinental Championship. GUNTHER has had a record-breaking 666-day reign with the Intercontinental Championship. This was a decision personally, I wasn’t sure about. Frankly, Chad Gable should have been the guy to dethrone GUNTHER.

However, Zayn was able to enter his “Rocky” mode and do the unthinkable. Zayn defeated GUNTHER after an absolute hell of a contest between the two men. While his dropping the title may come as a shock, GUNTHER is certainly in line for bigger and better things. Sami Zayn looked incredible and played the role of the ultimate underdog very well.

1. The Rock & Roman Reigns defeat Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins

In the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, we witnessed the biggest tag team match in WrestleMania history. Roman Reigns & The Rock teamed up for the first time to take on the unlikely team of Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins. This match had major implications for tomorrow’s main event. If Rhodes and Rollins win, Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns stays a one-on-one match, but if The Rock and Reigns win, we will see a “Bloodline Rules” match.

Ultimately, The Rock & Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins when The Rock landed a people’s elbow on Rhodes. This means that the main event of WrestleMania Night 2 between Cody Rhodes & Roman Reigns will now be a “Bloodline Rules” match. What a Night 1 of WrestleMania!
