Ric Flair Responds To Backlash Over Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay Comments

Ric Flair has clarified his comments about Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay at AEW All In: London while also distancing himself from criticism made by fellow WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff.

Ospreay defeated Omega at All In to capture the AEW World Championship following a match that drew widespread praise. Comparisons were subsequently made between the bout and Flair’s legendary series with Ricky Steamboat.

Flair responded by saying that comparing Omega and Ospreay to himself and Steamboat was like “comparing the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean.” His remarks subsequently received criticism online.

Bischoff also faced backlash after criticizing the All In main event and comparing the match to watching The Nasty Boys.

Following the reaction, Flair issued another statement making it clear that, unlike Bischoff, he actually enjoyed Omega vs. Ospreay and that his previous remarks were simply his opinion on comparisons with his own matches against Steamboat.

“Please don’t put me in the same category as Eric Bischoff! I thoroughly enjoyed the match. I know both Kenny and Will and have sung their praises to them personally. I have nothing but respect for them. When I tweeted this yesterday, it’s just an opinion, like every other sport. It’s like watching Get Up or First Take on ESPN. It doesn’t mean it’s right, and it doesn’t mean it’s wrong. It’s just an opinion. Eric should just focus on his new amateur wrestling project. The same applies to Jim Ross and his comments. If you mention my name, of course I am going to respond.”

Flair’s reference to Jim Ross comes after the longtime announcer addressed both Flair and Bischoff’s reactions to Omega vs. Ospreay. Ross disagreed with their assessments and described Flair’s initial social media post as “unnecessary,” while maintaining his respect for both Flair and Steamboat.

Flair’s latest comments make the distinction clear: while he stands by his opinion regarding comparisons between Omega-Ospreay and Flair-Steamboat, he says he thoroughly enjoyed the All In match and has considerable respect for both men.
