According to Fightful.com, Andy “The Butcher” Williams will permanently be listed on the AEW roster page, similar to how Brodie Lee was honored. The report notes that, although Williams was technically a free agent as of April, his tragic death a few weeks ago resulted in an outpouring of love from fans and led to a tribute show. Consequently, rather than being listed as an alumnus, he will now be officially considered a forever member of the AEW family.
Additionally, the report stated that Butcher’s permanent posthumous position on the roster likely allows his merchandise to remain an AEW-branded product for as long as his estate desires.
Before his passing, Williams had been in discussions with AEW President and CEO Tony Khan regarding a possible backstage role. Khan was interested in continuing those conversations, especially considering that Williams, at 48, had limited time left for an active in-ring career. His agent, Steve Kaye, confirmed that these discussions did take place.
The Butcher and his regular partner, The Blade, were expected to re-sign, and Khan had insisted that both remain on the active roster page rather than being classified as alumni, even before Williams’ passing. In February, Williams had expressed frustration over not having more matches in AEW, while acknowledging that the size of the roster made it inevitable.
