Tommaso Ciampa Calls Out Chris Jericho
This week’s show kicks off with Tony Schiavone in the ring. He is joined by Tommaso Ciampa in the ring. “The Pyscho Killer” demands Schiavone tell everyone that he is better than Chris Jericho. Schiavone refuses. Ciampa bullies him into a corner.
Schiavone eventually obliges, but before he can finish, Jericho’s theme hits. Out he comes to the ring. Jericho taunts Ciampa for being bald. He then gets under Ciampa’s skin by calling him “Tommy.” Ciampa says even his mother didn’t call him that.
Jericho interrupts and says, “Tommy’s mommy?” Cue the “Tommy’s mommy!” chant. Ciampa asks Jericho if he thinks he’s a joke. Jericho gets serious and talks about his return making Ciampa a very angry man. He suggests Ciampa takes that stick out of his ass before he sticks it up even further.
He ends by calling Ciampa “Tommy” once again. After a pause, Ciampa and Jericho begin slugging it out, trading shots in the middle of the ring. A ton of security and officials hit the ring and breaks them up. Jericho is restrained on the ramp. Ciampa in the ring. They re-engage, etc.
Backstage With The Don Callis Family
Backstage, Don Callis is with TNT Champion Kevin Knight when Andrade El Idolo walks up. He asks Callis if he is with him or Knight. Callis assures him that everything is good.
AEW Continental Championship
Jon Moxley (c) vs. Shane Taylor
The familiar sounds of Jon Moxley’s theme hits. Out comes the leader of The Death Riders through the crowd accompanied by Marina Shafir. He settles in the ring as “The Dapper Yapper” Justin Roberts formally introduces him for his AEW Continental Championship defense in our opening contest.
After his music dies down, the theme for his opponent hits and out comes Shane Taylor accompanied by the rest of Shane Taylor Promotions. They, much like Shafir moments earlier, are forced to go to the back as no one is allowed at ringside during Continental title tilts.
The bell sounds and we’re officially off-and-running with this one. A loud “F**k ’em up, Moxley! F**k ’em up!” chant breaks out and spreads throughout the building. Mox controls the first couple of minutes, however things end up on the floor where Taylor puts Mox through a table with a chokeslam.
On that note, the show shifts gears and settles into a mid-match commercial break as this high stakes opening championship contest continues.
