WWE Hall of Famer JBL appeared on the podcast โSomething to Wrestle With,โ where he discussed various topics, including WWE’s decision to change Mariah Mayโs ring name to Blake Monroe and whether this change negatively impacts Monroe.
JBL said, โIโm trying to think if Iโm her, would it bother me? And I think it โ it would be kind of cool to have this cool heritage of this name of somebody that nobody knows about. And itโs got this cool kind of wink-wink, โBy the way, thereโs this old porn star that had the same name, and we looked remarkably similar.โโ
On whether he would change it:
โBut I think โ yeah, I think Iโd change it. I think Iโd just, โYou know what, deep six that. We had a name, we thought it worked. And turns out that name was used, and people are going to bringโโ WWE fans are two things: theyโre brutal and theyโre smart. And thereโs no tell what theyโll come up with because of that name. So now it might be to her benefit. I mean, sometimes you have like โ look, one of the hardest things. I remember when weโre wrestlers, we had big fat wrestlers. Theyโd always say, some of them would say, โMan, donโt call me fat out there, the fans will chant it.โ Iโd go, โYeah, theyโre not chanting anything right now. Your fat ass is going to be unemployed if they donโt start chanting something. So at least theyโre chanting something.โ Some of the guys will go out there and go, โHey man, call me fat. Call me whatever you want. Letโs get fans chanting anything,โ you know. Because you got to be noticed, and thereโs a difference there. And so maybe it works to her advantage. I donโt know. I think Iโd probably change it, but I donโt know, itโs kind of fun.โ
