Jim Ross Addresses AEW’s Production Values, Calls It “Cleaner” And “Slicker”

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross recently spoke on his podcast, “Grilling JR,” about a variety of professional wrestling topics including AEW making upgrades across the board including the graphics, the stage, the lighting, and the backstage segments.

Ross said, “On Wednesday night, I watched Dynamite and I thought it was a hell of a show. One thing too that’s kind of cool is…the show looks cleaner. It looks slicker. The production values have increased noticeably. The graphics area is really good. Outstanding.”

Conrad Thompson mentioned that he enjoyed Renee Paquette’s commentary in the aisleway because it reminded him of a sideline reporter on an NFL broadcast. Thompson said, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before. When Renee was standing sort of ringside with the entrance behind her after Okada was already in the ring and Eddie Kingston was coming out. His music is playing like always and all that and she’s talking over and through it and that’s just sort of happening in the background. It felt like an NFL sideline reporter and I thought it was really awesome. It made me sit up and pay more attention because it was so different. It had a real sports feel and I loved it.”

Ross replied, “I liked it. It was a nice little element to add to the show so somebody had a real good idea there, I think. It got my attention, it helped my attention, and it kept me tuned in.”

Ross also praised Mercedes Mone, saying she has a lot of fire and that you could tell there were high expectations for her because she is talented.
