Paul Wight recently appeared as a guest on the Battleground podcast for an in-depth interview covering all things pro wrestling.
During the discussion, the pro wrestling legend spoke about his role as Captain Insano in Adam Sandler’s cult classic comedy film “The Waterboy,” as well as possibly reprising the role in AEW.
Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview where he touches on these topics with his thoughts.
On auditioning for the role: โI just went crazy. I honestly didnโt even think I was going to get the part. I didnโt even try to get it, which is so weird to think. And then when I showed up to do it, โฆ I read the script, did it in one take, and [they went], โThatโs great! Thanks!โ I went, โIโm really good at this!โโ
On being friends with Adam Sandler: โI would run into Adam Sandler at Super Bowl events here and there, and he would always be with his family. Adam used to introduce me to everyone, [and his mother] would hold my hand and she would [say], โThis is Adamโs big friend, Paul. Heโs a pro wrestler.โโ
On reprising the role on AEW TV: โLetโs be honest โ Paul Wight is kind of cool, but itโs not โ it doesnโt have the โoomphโโฆ I can do comic books. I could probably do an animated TV show. โฆ [Tony Khan] just put that in my hand like, โHere you go, bud. Thanks for coming to AEW.โ โฆ And now weโre having fun getting it together and figuring out what weโre going to do with it.โ
