Tony Khan Calls Jim Ross “Indispensable” To AEW

More than six years into AEW’s run, company President Tony Khan says WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross remains one of the promotion’s most essential figures. In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Khan heaped praise on the legendary voice of wrestling, calling him “indispensable” and “the greatest wrestling commentator of all time.”

“Jim Ross is an indispensable part of AEW. He’s the greatest wrestling commentator of all time,” Khan said. “I first heard JR’s voice when I was eight years old, and he immediately hooked me with his commentary. He is a great man. He’s done so much in wrestling. He’s the original voice of AEW.”

Ross, 73, underwent colon surgery earlier this year and recently confirmed he is cancer-free. He is scheduled to be in Arlington, Texas for AEW All In this Saturday and will be calling select matches on commentary.

“He’s been through some really tough health battles, and I think it’s important to stand with Jim,” Khan added. “Jim’s done a lot for AEW and me personally… it’s so great to hear that Jim is doing much better now. Everyone in AEW loves JR.”

On his Grilling JR podcast last week, Ross confirmed his appearance at All In, though the exact match he will call hasn’t been confirmed. Ross mentioned that he hopes to be on commentary for the Unified Championship bout between Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada.
