Tyler Breeze recently appeared as a guest on the Agents of Wrestling program for an in-depth interview covering all things pro wrestling.
During the discussion, the former WWE Superstar spoke about the biggest misconception of wrestlers when they enter training, as well as how he thinks today’s generation of wrestlers need to focus on increasing their work ethic.
Featured below are some of the highlights from the interview where he touches on these topics with his thoughts.
On the biggest misconception of wrestlers when they enter training: “People get infatuated with the moves and the risky stuff and all the stuff that takes years to get to, and they donโt really understand the โwhysโ behind it. โOh man, I want to do this.โ Okay, first, you need to be able to crawl before you run. At the same time, everything we do can change your life because it can hurt you. You need to learn how to do this properly, you need to learn how to do the basics. It is easy to fall into that trap of worrying about all the cool moves that you think are important and really neglecting the stuff that actually matters.”
On how he thinks todayโs wrestlers need to improve their work ethic: “Honestly, probably work ethic. I hate being that older dude who goes โback in my day,โ but the only thing I can compare it to is myself. Luckily, Spears is right there with me. I know, when I was in wrestling school, you had to kick me out of there. I wanted to learn everything possible. It was fun, I wanted to be a wrestler, and now getting to wrestle, Iโm soaking this stuff in. Iโm a sponge. Iโm talking to you all day, I have all these questions. Now, we get a lot of students who just donโt like hard work. They donโt put in the extra. We teach them how to do something, and a week later, we go, โare you practicing this?โ โNo.โ โWhy not?โ Itโs not going to affect me, it just doesnโt add up in my head of why youโre here, and you say you want to do this for a living, and itโs important to you, but when youโre not here, youโre not practicing punches, kicks, and promos, and all this other stuff that we can piece together. It just doesnโt add up to me. In todayโs day and age, if you try at all, youโre already ahead of most. This landscape, it makes it very easy to be successful. If you have any sort of work ethic, if you work hard and say you want to do it and actually want to, there is no reason why you canโt go all the way with it and make it somewhere to where you get to live everything youโve ever wanted to do. Itโs a work ethic thing where you have to put in some hard work and sacrifice upfront to get the reward on the back end.”
