AEW star Bryan Danielson has broken his silence — carefully — on the complex and deeply personal situation surrounding Vince McMahon and the ongoing lawsuit brought by Janel Grant.
Appearing on MJ In The Midday, Danielson acknowledged the weight of the subject while admitting he could not speak freely due to family ties. The lawsuit not only names McMahon but also John Laurinaitis, who is the estranged husband of Danielson’s mother-in-law.
“I’m not going to answer too much of that. There is too much, honestly, click-baity headlines that could come out of that, but also, too many family things that are sensitive to my family specifically, because part of everything that has gone down involves my mother-in-law,” Danielson explained.
Danielson, who famously main-evented WrestleMania 30 under McMahon’s WWE, shared how difficult it’s been to process the duality of Vince — the boss and the man.
“I also have a very complicated thought process when it comes to Vince.”
“When I’m looking at Vince McMahon, the human being, how he was to me when I was backstage… we’re also talking about a guy who, when my dad passed away, gave me the best hug I had ever gotten.”
Danielson continued, noting that McMahon treated him with exceptional respect and empathy on a personal level — something that makes the current accusations all the more jarring to him.
“There is his treatment of me as an employee, but there was his treatment of me as a human being, and that’s the part that is hard to rectify with the things they are accusing him of.”
While Danielson declined to go into further detail out of respect for his family and the sensitivity of the situation, his comments shed light on the personal toll the scandal has had on those connected to it — directly or indirectly.
