As he prepares for his long-awaited retirement match against GUNTHER at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is once again addressing one of the most controversial moments of his career—the kick that ended Bret “The Hitman” Hart’s in-ring run.

Speaking with Dan Sileo of JAKIB Sports, Goldberg expressed continued remorse for the accidental kick delivered at WCW Starrcade 1999, which left Hart with a concussion and ultimately forced his retirement from the ring.

“I kicked Bret Hart in the head on accident a hundred years ago and I’ve been remorseful ever since,” Goldberg said. “And I’ve said I was sorry. I was young in the business, no question, and people make mistakes.”

While Hart has remained critical of Goldberg over the years—often labeling him an unsafe worker—Goldberg pushed back against the idea that he would ever intentionally injure a fellow wrestler.

“People have to understand that I was extremely lucky to break into the business when I did,” he continued. “There were guys that were unbelievable sources of information, the coaches, and the people who took the time to help me out. I never would take advantage of anybody. Do you think I’m gonna cheapshot people?”

The WWE Hall of Famer emphasized the respect he had for veterans like Hart, noting the support they gave him early in his career and the seriousness with which he approached working safely in the ring.

With his final match approaching, Goldberg appears eager to close out his legacy on a redemptive note—headlining a major WWE special and stepping into the ring one last time, this time against the dominant World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER.
