According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, indie wrestling veteran and former MMA fighter “Filthy” Tom Lawlor is currently on an indefinite hiatus from wrestling due to multiple serious health concerns.
The report states that Lawlor’s prognosis is not good, and he is dealing with significant pain. He had already withdrawn from all independent bookings prior to his diagnosis.
It’s also noted that Lawlor began to suspect his in-ring career was nearing its end two months ago due to the increasing toll on his body. Following medical evaluations, it was confirmed that Lawlor requires both a hip replacement and spinal surgery. Doctors found that his L-5 and S-1 vertebrae are compressing a nerve, resulting in numbness and muscular atrophy.
At this time, it remains unclear whether the health issues are the result of a specific injury or the cumulative damage from years of amateur wrestling, MMA, and professional wrestling.
PWMania.com will provide further updates on Tom Lawlor’s condition and career status as more information becomes available.
