On Monday’s WWE RAW, Dragon Lee defeated “All Ego” Ethan Page, securing a future opportunity for the WWE Intercontinental Title, currently held by Chad Gable. Gable intervened during the match when Page attempted to cheat his way to victory, which ultimately allowed Lee to claim the win.
During the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the match from Monday. Meltzer expressed concern over how much effort WWE invested in protecting Page, only for him to end up losing to Lee. He argued that sometimes WWE overprotects the loser of a match, and in this case, it was excessive. Meltzer felt that Lee should have achieved a more definitive victory.
He also mentioned that the major matchup for Gable at this point is an eventual title bout against Page, acknowledging that WWE was right to protect Page in this loss. According to Meltzer, WWE is clearly delaying the match, which is why they chose to safeguard Page’s image.
For now, Dragon Lee will face Chad Gable for the WWE Intercontinental Title on the September 14 episode of RAW in Mexico City.
