AEW Collision Review – January 6, 2024

Tag Team Match
The Workhorsemen (Anthony Henry & JD Drake) vs. Darby Allin & Sting

The Workhorsemen attacks Darby Allin before the opening bell as JD Drake slams a chair over Sting’s back.

Sting no sold it and works over Drake on the floor as Anthony Henry got the better of Allin then hits Sting.

Once the bell rings Allin was isolated before Allin avoided a top rope move from Drake.

Sting tags in as Allin put Drake down with a Code Red then Sting follows up with a Stinger Splash.

Sting clears Henry from the ring then Allin went up top and hits a Coffin Drop onto Henry on the floor. In the ring Sting hits Scorpion Death Drop on Drake for the win.

Winners: Darby Allin & Sting

A video package recaps Konosuke Takeshita beating Darby Allin on Dynamite followed by Callis challenging Allin & Sting to face Takeshita & Powerhouse Hobbs.

Continental Crown Match
Eddie Kingston (c) vs. Trent Beretta

Eddie Kingston threw an early chop to Trent Beretta’s face which sent Beretta to ringside.

Beretta returns to the ring as Kingston was on the offensive going into a picture in picture break.

After the break Beretta battles back and hits Kingston with a suicide dive.

Beretta rolls Kingston back inside the ring and went to the ropes but Kingston cuts him off and joins him on the ropes.

Beretta went for a sunset bomb but Kingston held the ropes before Beretta pulls Kingston free then powerbombs him and got a two count.

Kingston came right back with an exploder suplex and a DDT which led to a two count.

Beretta regained control and used a piledriver to get a near fall. Kingston rallied with an exploder, a backfist and a Northern Lights Bomb and went for the pin but Beretta kicks out.

Kingston followed up with a 2nd Northern Lights Bomb to put away Beretta.

Winner & Still Continental Crown Champion: Eddie Kingston (STILL CHAMPION!!!!)

Footage aired of a pre taped interview that Tony Schiavone conducted with Willow Nightingale & Kris Statlander. Schiavone asked about Stokely Hathaway’s recent actions. They spoke about keeping their momentum rolling.

Footage aired of FTW Champion Hook at an outdoor setting. He said he has the highest winning percentage in AEW then declared that he was going after Samoa Joe at the AEW World Title.

Proving Ground Match
ROH World Tag Team Champions Undisputed Kingdom (Mike Bennett & Matt Taven) vs. Komander & Bryan Keith

Both teams shook hands to adhere to the Code Of Honor before Undisputed Kingdom were on the offensive heading into an early PIP break.

After the break Komander took a hot tag after Keith had been isolated. Komander works over Undisputed Kingdom.

Matt Taven was seated on the top rope and started to fight back but Bryan Keith came in and headbutts him. Komander stood on the shoulders of Keith then superplexed Taven.

Keith took a tag and then launched Komander onto Undisputed Kingdom on the floor.

Keith was setting up for a move on Taven when Mike Bennett returns and broke it up with a clothesline. Bennett took out Komander with a piledriver.

Taven hits Just The Tip on Keith before Undisputed Kingdom hits Proton Pack for the win.

Winners: ROH World Tag Team Champions Undisputed Kingdom (8:33)

Renee Paquette interviewed Bullet Club Gold and asked about their relationship with Trios Champions The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn. Before they could answer they walked in. Both teams bickered. Anthony Bowens was the only way to get to the top is with factions. He pointed to Jay White’s history in Japan and Billy’s success in a faction. Bowens told them to think about it as we go to a break

After the break Adam Copeland recalls Christian Cage saying that he had to go to the back of the line. Copeland noted that because he won the TNT Title he gets an automatic rematch. Copeland took issue with Christian Cage claiming that he’s been given opportunities. Copeland said the truth is that he just worked harder.

Copeland said Cage wants him to start at the bottom and earn his rematch. Copeland said he works hard and would do just that. He noted he was wearing his gear and would have an open challenge.

Maria Kanellis-Bennett, Griff Garrison & Cole Karter walks out together. Garrison introduced himself and said some people were probably wondering who he was. He said he’s the guy who steps up and faces a Hall Of Famer. He told Copeland to look at him because he’s the guy who accepted his challenge.

Copeland said he likes Garrison and appreciates him trying to step up but he was starting from sea level to Mount Everest. Garrison slaps Copeland & said that makes him like him event more but now he had to beat his ass.

Adam Copeland vs. Griff Garrison

Adam Copeland boots Griff Garrison in the face to start the match.

Copeland dominated and was about to go for a spear but Maria distracted him then Karter trips him.

Garrison took advantage of the distraction and was on the offensive for a stretch before Copeland kicks Karter through the ropes.

Copeland put Garrison down with a top rope crossbody that led to a two count.

Copeland charged Garrison but he drops him with a discus punch that led to a near fall.

Copeland came back with a superplex and an Impaler DDT then hooks in a submission hold for the win.

Winner By Submission: Adam Copeland

After the match Karter dropkicks Copeland then went for a top rope 450 splash that Copeland avoids then he spears Karter.

Backstage Ric Flair spoke about Sting’s retirement match then shifted the focus to Sting and Allin returning to Daily’s Place at Dynamite. Sting said he won’t be coasting through his last few weeks and spoke about facing Konosuke Takeshita & Powerhouse Hobbs.

Skye Blue vs. Kiera Hogan

Skye Blue was in offensive control going into a picture in picture break.

After the break Hogan hits a couple of superkicks then runs at Blue.

Blue hoisted her up and hits a TKO then locks in a Dragon Sleeper for the win.

Winner By Submission: Skye Blue

Claudio Castagnoli was featured in a pre taped promo & he challenges Hangman Page to face him in a match on Dynamite.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Andrew Everett

Andrew Everett dropkicks Claudio Castagnoli but Castagnoli came right back with a chokeslam.

Castagnoli hits the Giant Swing before Everett came back with a leg lariat and an overhead kick. Everett went for a shooting star press but Castagnoli punches him.

Castagnoli hits Neutralizer then picks up Everett and hits King Kong Lariat for the win.

Winner: Claudio Castagnoli

Backstage Lexy Nair is with the AEW World Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks & Big Bill & Starks recalls debuting in AEW at Daily’s Place in a TNT Title match that he lost to Cody Rhodes. Starks talk about facing Sammy Guevara on Dynamite. Bill challenged Guevara & Chris Jericho to face them for the AEW Tag Team Titles in a Street Fight at Battle Of The Belts.

Tag Team Match
FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) vs. House Of Black (Malakai Black & Buddy Matthews)

Malakai Black ducks an Dax Harwood punch then sat down crosslegged in front of him.

Harwood also sat down and gave Black the bird then Black left the ring and walks over to Harwood’s daughter.

FTR follows causing Black to return to the ring and joins Buddy Matthews in sitting down going into a PIP break.

After the break Black hits a top rope moonsault onto Cash Wheeler on the floor before Wheeler was isolated by House Of Black.

He was on the verge of tagging out when Matthews boots Harwood off the apron.

Mathews kicks Wheeler then covers him for a two count heading into the last PIP break.

After the 2nd break Harwood hits a brainbuster on Black that led to a near fall.

Harwood rolled Black into a pin, but Black’s kickout launched him into a cheap shot thrown by Matthews from the floor then Black hits Harwood with a back elbow for a two count.

Harwood battles back and superplexed Black before Wheeler follows up with a top rope splash.

Harwood went for the cover but Matthews hits a Meteora from the top rope onto a standing Wheeler causing both men to crash into and break up the pin attempt.

Wheeler went for a suicide dive on House Of Black but they caught him and hits him with a simultaneous knee strikes. House Of Black tossed Wheeler over the announce table.

Black brought a chair to the ring when he & Matthews returned but Harwood punched Black before he could use the chair.

FTR hits Shatter Machine on Matthews then Harwood had the pin but Black broke it up before FTR hits Mind Breaker on Black on the apron. Brody King walks out with a cast on his right hand.

Daniel Garcia ran out behind Matthews and slams a chair over his back as King no sold the 1st shot but Garcia hits him with another then tossed the chair at King’s head.

When Harwood tried to return to the ring. Matthews hits him with Curb Stomp and went for a cover but Harwood put his foot on the ropes.

Matthews powerbombs Harwood and rolls onto him for a pin but Harwood reversed it to get the win.

Winners: FTR (Recommend)

After the match Garcia enters the ring and celebrated with FTR then Matthews ran in and hit them from behind then House of Black put the boots to FTR & Garcia. Matthews Stomps Wheeler’s head onto a chair. King & Matthews held a chair in front of Harwood’s head and then Black hit it with Black Mass.

TBS Champion Julia Hart was shown smirking while she ran the ring bell while the beatdown continued as House Of Black stood tall to close out Collision.
