There has been speculation about Drew McIntyre’s new WWE contract ahead of his big match.

McIntyre reportedly became dissatisfied with creative and negotiations for a new WWE contract, which is set to expire in 2024, and took a break from the company after WrestleMania 39 earlier this year. He made his WWE TV return at Money in the Bank.

McIntyre will face Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Title at the Crown Jewel PLE next Saturday.

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed McIntyre’s contract status on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Alvarez said, “So, is there anything new on Drew McIntyre? Is he re-signed? Do we know?”

Meltzer replied, “I could check, but I do not believe he’s re-signed.”

Alvarez stated, “Because this is a pretty damn big match for a guy who has not re-signed.”

Meltzer responded, “Oh no, they were gonna push him. He’s solid through April. There’s time. You can do whatever you want with him through April. So the deal is that his contract was to expire at the end of the year, but because of all the injury time accrued, it’s April. So I mean, they’re not at a point where I would say it’s dangerous or we are at a turning point or don’t put the title on him, which they’ve done before. They’ve had champions, Bret Hart, Jeff Jarrett, where guy’s contracts were up.”

Alvarez added, “Yeah. But you’re talking about things in the 90s. It’s 2023 now.”

Meltzer continued, “Yeah. But they’ve done it before.”

Alvarez replied, “Well, sure. But you know Vince is out of there. And I don’t think Hunter’s putting the title on somebody whose contract…”

Meltzer added, “I don’t either, I don’t either. But the point is he’s got plenty of time. It’s not like it’s not like you can’t have him win because he’s going to be gone in a month and he hasn’t resigned his deal. And it’s basically a numbers game. It’s not like he’s a guy who’s looking to leave. It’s just a numbers game. I mean, he wants a certain number and they did not offer that certain number. And they may be in the middle, and they may not meet in the middle. And he may go home, I don’t know, or he may go. Of course, you can go if it’s anything’s possible.”
