Pro wrestling veteran Davey Boy Smith Jr. spoke with Hannibal TV on a number of topics, including if he is interested in working with AEW.
Smith Jr. said, โYeah, thatโs a good question. A lot of people have asked stuff like that in the past. I certainly donโt have any problem or issue with doing anything with AEW. Working with MLW, Iโve worked with a lot of New Japan talent that have been coming in. I got nothing bad to say about New Japan either. Iโm very thankful for the work that they gave me. Time expired, and there was a lot of stuff, a lot of middlemen and things that got confused between myself and them. But they just didnโt seem to want to really expand with me, and I was ready to move on, and time expired. But it is certainly a possibility. People have asked a lot of times about why I wasnโt on the Wembley Stadium show or why Iโm not in AEW, and a lot of it is, the last year or so, I was doing stuff with MLW against. I guess from AEWโs perspective, which I totally understand, Iโm not mad at all, if they bring me in for one show, I guess Iโm gonna have to go over, and then itโs just a one-shot deal. Obviously, they had enough people in attendance that they didnโt necessarily need me as an addition, although I would have been a positive addition to the show. Then to MLWโs respect, itโs like okay, I go off and do this one big show for AEW, and if I did lose on it, itโd be kind of what would MLW get positive out of it? Maybe some exposure, Iโm not sure, but with all due respect to them, itโs a little hard. Also, there hasnโt been any reach out as far as if I were to do that, fans would want to see a continuation or some sort of a story after that, or further additions to an AEW, not just one-time match, but tag-teaming with Lance Archer for instance, but thatโs people that they have under contract, so I would be up for it if it was a one-thing deal. But I think that maybe itโs better that Iโm over here in All Japan, and I think my life and quality of life and the way Iโm progressing myself personally over here, I think thatโs the best idea that I continue on with All Japan Pro Wrestling, and if AEW did have a tag team tournament, a yearly one, I could perhaps go there. Maybe when my All Japan deal is done, maybe I do go to AEW. Iโm not sure. Iโm not against that at all, in any way, shape, or form. Reuniting with Lance Archer, it certainly got over in the past, and maybe it would be a fresh breath of air for AEW if I came. But I would be up for it, but it just hasnโt happened because I havenโt been approached, it hasnโt worked out.โ
