GCW Homecoming Night 1 Review – August 19, 2023

Mixed Tag Team Match
Maki Death Kill (Maki Itoh & Nick Gage) vs. Deathmatch Royalty (Steph De Lander & Matt Cardona)

Matt Cardona tags in Step De Lander before he & Nick Gage could lock up. SDL calls out Gage and they lock up with SDL gaining a quick advantage using a side headlock.

Gage connects with a spinebuster followed by a running neckbreaker. Gage then tags in Maki Itoh & she repeatedly hits SDL with headbutts.

SDL counters with a boot to the gut before Cardona tags in but Itoh took the fight to him by delivering a series of punches followed by a tornado DDT and more punches in the corner. She then hits Cardona with a face wash.

Gage grabs a bundle of tubes aiming to strike Cardona but SDL low blows Gage then Cardona shattered a bundle over Gage’s head then SDL performed a scoop slam on Gage followed by more punches and boots to Gage.

Cardona reenters the match and targets the cuts on Gage’s head then Cardona set up a door in the corner but Gage reversed it and spears Cardona through the door. Itoh & SDL face off with Maki tying up SDL and delivering repeated DDTs in the ring and on the floor. Cardona attempted to hit Itoh with a chair but she counters it.

Maki Death Kill each struck him with bundles of tubes before Deathmatch Royalty got a a pizza cutter drag across their foreheads didn’t improve their situation as they continued to work over Deathmatch Royalty using pizza cutters.

Gage poured a bag of tacks into the ring before Deathmatch Royalty attempted Pedigrees but they were back body drop onto the tacks and then each experienced Itoh’s diving headbutts to get the win.

Leon Slater vs. Alec Price

Match starts off with a lock up then Alec Price was able to get something going but Leon Slater reversed it then Price eventually did the same before he was taken off his feet with a shoulder tackle from Slater.

Price executed a springboard crossbody followed by a running leaping knee that caught Slater off guard. Price launches himself out of the ring to the floor but Slater moves out of the way causing Price to land on the concrete floor.

Slater connects with some offense and hits Price with a leaping splash for a near fall. Price fired back up and delivered repeated running boots to Slater as he managed to evade them before they engages in a game of cat and mouse before Price finally caught Slater with a neckbreaker.

They evaded each other’s offensive moves before Price managed to hoist Slater onto his shoulders and stack him up in the corner but Slater reversed and hits a high angle top rope Falcon Arrow for a near fall.

They exchanged forearm strikes in the center of the ring and Slater landed some kicks of his own. Price retaliated and executed a devastating half suplex followed by a big springboard neck breaker that sent Slater to the floor.

Price successfully executed his dive to the floor this time followed by a top rope double stomp for another near fall & as they continued to trade kicks Slater hits his finisher to get the win.

6 Person Tag Team Match
Thrussy (Effy, Allie Katch & Dark Sheik) vs. Los Macizos (Ciclope & Miedo Extremo) & Crazy King

Dark Sheik & Crazy King kicks off the match with King quickly gaining control through a series of headlock takeovers before Sheik turned the tables with a rana that grounds King. King then sent Sheik to the floor followed by Bussy as they hit a trios dive. Los Macizos teamed up against Sheik & Allie Katch was sent crotch first into Sheik’s face in the corner.

Effy eliminated Ciclope with a backdrop followed by tandem offense from Bussy and then Thrussy before both King & Miedo Extremo re enters the ring and King hits a spike piledriver on Effy. Katch managed to break up the pin attempt and engaged in a fight with Ciclope & King.

Katch intervened by taking out both opponents and hitting Extremo with a hip thrust in the corner. Extremo held onto Katch’s waist and it took everyone in the match to try and separate them. Los Macizos launched Sheik to the floor and as they attempted to carry her on their shoulders but she escaped by kissing Ciclope.

Effy hits Gut & Over The Rainbow on King & Extremo. Bussy hits a Doomsday Leg Drop on Ciclope followed by a top rope leg drop from Sheik gets the victory.

Winners: Thrussy (9:52)

Tony Deppen vs. Alex Zayne

Tony Deppen wastes no time as he took Alex Zayne down with a grappling exchange before Zayne managed to turn the tables briefly but Deppen quickly reasserted his control with a hold before they eventually reached a standoff by trading several near falls.

Deppen took a moment to catch his breath in the corner as they both reset. Deppen fired back by delivering a powerful kick that leveled Zayne but Zayne managed to reverse the situation with a corkscrew shooting star.

Deppen retaliated with a series of kicks against Zayne then he attempted a running double knee move in the corner but Zayne agilely evaded it. Zayne went for a dive but Deppen pulled his leg off the rope. Zayne flips out of the situation and executed a senton leg drop on Deppen. Zayne follows up with a flip dive to the floor.

Back in the ring Zayne stacks Deppen up on the top turnbuckle and attempted a flipping rana but Deppen reversed it and locked in the Boston Crab then he transitioned that into a STF but Zayne managed to reach the ropes to break the hold.

They returned to a standing position as they are leveling each other with forearm strikes followed by a series of repeated kicks before Deppen rolls up Zayne to get the victory.

Tag Team Double Dog Collar Match
Extreme Champion Joey Janela & Sawyer Wreck vs. Charles Mason & Parrow 

Match starts off with both teams trading punches before they pair off into separate corners then Charles Mason & Parrow retaliated with punches of their own followed by a sequence of chain wrestling. Parrow & Joey Janela engaged in a brawl on the floor and Sawyer Wreck quickly joined them.

Wreck fends off Mason with powerful boots while Parrow hurled Janela into one of the concrete pillars then they brawled in the crowd as they take turns being slam into the pillar and subjected to various offensive moves.

Parrow & Mason both re enter the ring as they attempted to choke each other with the chain. Janela struck Parrow across the knees with the chain then grabs 2 chairs and a door then Janela hits Parrow’s stomach with the chain but Mason halted his attack with a Ryu Kick.

Wreck tried to chokeslam Mason but he escaped to the floor and pulls her through a door in the corner. Janela & Mason exchanged punches in the center of the ring.

Mason hits a spike piledriver on Janela but Wreck broke the pin and hits Mason with a choke slam before Parrow powerbombs Wreck then Janela intervened by breaking up the pin by delivering a chair shot to the back of Parrow’s head.

Janela drops Parrow through a chair with a back driver then he struck Parrow & Mason over the head with a steel chair. Janela then ascended the top rope but Parrow pulls him down into a Death Valley Driver onto a chair. Parrow reciprocated by hitting Wreck across the back with a steel chair.

Parrow drags Janela to the floor but not before Janela executed a flip senton onto everyone then they constructed a door bridge near the scissor lift. Parrow places Janela on it but Janela resisted & as the lift ascended Parrow & Mason had no choice but to surrender.

Winners: Extreme Champion Joey Janela & Sawyer Wreck (17:20)

Fatal 8 Way Match
Jimmy Lloyd vs. Arez vs. Cole Radrick vs. Dante Leon vs. Ninja Mack vs. Shane Mercer vs. Gringo Loco vs. Komander

Shane Mercer slams Cole Radrick with a powerslam and they all attempted to land offense on Mercer only to have their moves quickly reversed. Komander executed a destroyer following a vertical suplex and Gringo Loco unleashed his wild side.

Komander’s attempt to halt Loco was thwarted as Loco hit him with a double jump senton before Komander & Arez both propelled themselves out of the ring as they are soaring through the air with various flips and reversals.

Jimmy Lloyd & Radrick pair off and Radrick gets hit with a neckbreaker from Lloyd then Ninja Mack re enters the ring & gets into in a brawl with Dante Leon.

Mack was about to execute a dive but Arez & Komander intervened by cutting him off and tossing him back into the ring with a towering vertical suplex. All competitors hit dives to the outside. Arez sent Loco back into the ring and attempted a cover. Arez took Loco down with a spinning DDT.

Komander kicks Arez in the face but got caught by Mack’s boot then Mack delivered a series of knee strikes to Komander’s chest before being blindsided by Dante Leon. They engaged in an exchange of chops and kicks before Lloyd & Radrick interrupted the sequence.

Leon clears the others and caught Mercer & Radrick by hitting a cutter. Mack hits Sasuke special dive to the floor followed by Loco performing one of his own. Komander follows suit with a rope walk senton.

Mercer was astonished with a Moonsault & a Battery but Mack intervened with a Phoenix splash to break up the pin attempt. Lloyd sent Mack to the floor and hits Arez with a spike piledriver to score the win.

Ultraviolent Title Match
Rina Yamashita (c) vs. Takashi Sasaki 

Match starts off with Rina Yamashita & Takashi Sasaki punching each other in the face as they vied for an advantage then they teased sending one another through the barbed wire doors in the corner but they both stop just before impact. Yamashita blocks a tube shot and then sent Sasaki crashing through the barbed wire door.

She broke a tube over his head and proceeded to carve at his forehead then Yamashita attempted to slam Sasaki onto the barbed wire but he resisted and managed to slam her onto the wire instead. Sasaki repeated the move this time slamming Yamashita onto the broken glass.

He then set up the wire in the center of the ring and suplexes Yamashita onto it then Sasaki shattered a series of tubes across Yamashita’s stomach with knee strikes before he went for a hit with the barbed wire chair but instead tried to slam her onto it but Yamashita fought back and slammed Sasaki by hitting him with multiple tube shots.

Yamashita places a barbed wire door across Sasaki’s chest but he managed to escape and hit Yamashita with a superplex onto the barbed wire door then goes for the cover but Yamashita kicks out at 1 as they exchanged forearm strikes in the center of the ring.

Sasaki landed a knee to Yamashita’s jaw then went for the pin but Yamashita kicks out. Sasaki arranged a bundle of tubes across her chest and smashed them then went for the cover Yamashita kicks out at two.

She fought out of a piledriver attempt and transformed it into a powerful slam on the broken glass & that gets a near fall. Yamashita hits a deadlift cradle piledriver but Sasaki kicks out at 1. Yamashita rallied by putting Sasaki on the top rope and sent him crashing through the barbed wire door and tubes with Splash Mountain to get the win.

Winner & Still Ultraviolent Champion: Rina Yamashita (14:01) (STILL CHAMPION!!!!!)

King Of Freedom Title Match
Toru Sugiura (c) vs. John Wayne Murdoch

Toru Sugiura broke a bundle over John Wayne Murdoch’s head then Murdoch heads to the floor where Sugiura took him out with a flip dive as they continued their battle on the outside. Murdoch sent Sugiura crashing through a pane of glass that had been set up in the corner and then he began using tubes and chairs to work over Murdoch.

Murdoch executed a leg sweep that sent both of them crashing into a bundle of tubes then sent Sugiura back to the floor and hit him across the back with a barbed wire chair as Murdoch persistently attacks Sugiura on the floor by using a broken tube shard on his forehead.

In the ring they exchanged tube shots followed by repeated forearms. Murdoch retrieved a fuzzer and attempted to use it against Sugiura but he managed to take it from Murdoch’s hand and struck him in the head with it.

Murdoch found himself cornered with a pane of glass and Sugiura launched himself through it with a cannonball but he could only secure a two count.

Sugiura sets up a glass bridge in the corner but Murdoch powers out of it and sent Sugiura crashing through multiple layers of glass then goes for the cover but Sugiura kicks out.

Murdoch arranged twin steel chairs but was sent crashing through them & He kicks out at just one count then Sugiura tube shot

Winner & Still King Of Freedom Champion: Toru Sugiura (9:21) (STILL CHAMPION!!!!)

Masha Slamovich vs. Nate Webb

Masha Slamovich took the fight to Nate Webb and hits him with a series of strikes followed by a dive to the floor which took Webb out. Webb tossed her around ringside and into the 2nd row of chairs.

They return to the ring where they continued to trade offense and pinfalls. Slamovich fired up with a series of kicks but Webb kept kicking out.

Webb missed a moonsault so Slamovich connects with some head kicks and finally a Curb Stomp into a choke submission victory.

Winner By Submission: Masha Slamovich (6:59)

Violento Jack vs. Matt Tremont

Matt Tremont shattered a tube over Violento Jack’s head then Jack returns the favor with one to Tremont’s chest before they brawled on the floor and Tremont took a tube assisted headbutt from Jack.

Jack wielded a piece of broken glass to target Tremont’s horn but Tremont seemed unaffected by responding with a tube assisted headbutt of his own then Tremont was positioned in the ring and gets hit with a springboard tube assisted elbow drop that earned a near fall.

Jack focused his attention on Tremont’s shoulder by delivering stomps and tube assisted stomps. They struggled for position by attempting to force the other into a pane of glass. Tremont emerged victorious from this contest by executing a back body drop that sent Jack crashing into a heap of glass on the mat.

Tremont even stabbed his own forehead with a fork then they engaged in a forearm strike exchange at the center of the ring. Jack resorted to a low blow then both fighters drop to their knees as they are dishing out pounding chops to each other.

Tremont wedged Jack in the corner with a bundle of tubes but Jack rallied, hitting Tremont with a tube assisted shoulder tackle followed by a high flying tope that sent both men crashing into chairs at ringside.

Jack set up a cluster of tubes on the floor and the battle continued on the apron. Tremont gained the upper hand, throwing both men off the apron through a door covered in barbed wire and tubes. Tremont was the first to return to the ring after the brutal fall. They charged at each other with bundles then Jack places Tremont on the top turnbuckle and set up a glass bridge in the corner.

Jack executed a flapjack that sent Tremont through the pane of glass. Jack follows up with a lariat but Tremont kicks out at just 1 before Jack delivers a tube assisted frog splash for a near fall.

Tremont brought more tubes into the center of the ring prompting Jack to toss a huge bundle at Tremont’s head then Tremont fired up by smashing Jack with a big tube assisted lariat followed by a Death Valley Driver then goes for the cover but Tremont managed to kick out and Jack applied a submission hold on Tremont causing him to eventually pass out & the ref calls for the bell.
