Sheamus Reveals Scrapped WWE Debut Plans Involving Finlay & Hornswoggle

During a recent appearance on the Cheap Heat Live podcast, WWE star Sheamus opened up about his early days in the company and revealed that his 2009 debut almost happened under very different circumstances.

Before making his official WWE television debut on the June 30, 2009 episode of ECW, Sheamus was reportedly slated for a different introduction to the main roster, involving two familiar names—Finlay and Hornswoggle.

“I was getting information… kind of down the pipeline,” Sheamus explained. “There was something at one stage. I was supposed to go back for Christmas. I think I was there in FCW a year and then all of a sudden, I was told, oh, I’m gonna debut with Finlay and Hornswoggle, who was in an angle with Mark Henry and Tony Atlas at the time. So I was like, ‘Oh sh*t, I better get ready for that’ and then that didn’t happen.”

Although that storyline never came to fruition, Sheamus ultimately made a strong impact on ECW, and by October 2009, he had moved up to the RAW roster. Just two months later, Sheamus defeated John Cena at WWE TLC 2009 to become WWE Champion, capping off a meteoric rise to the top.

Now a multi-time world champion and WWE veteran, Sheamus reflected fondly on how things turned out—even if the original plans changed.
