Recently released WWE star Shotzi Blackheart is speaking candidly about her departure from the company, revealing that it didn’t come as a surprise and that she had emotionally prepared for the moment well in advance.
In a new appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion explained that her lengthy injury absence and lack of creative direction led her to anticipate the release before it was even made official.
“My situation is different than others, because I had my injury for like nine months that I was gone from that. Then I was at NXT for a small stint, and then I wasn’t on TV for a little bit. So I was ready for it,” Shotzi said. “I feel like I had already done the grieving process, and I was already out of the locker room for a little bit. So it didn’t come as a shock to me. I was just like, okay, now I get to work.”
Shotzi also addressed speculation surrounding a cryptic promo she posted on social media shortly before her release. Many fans believed the video was a reaction to her being cut, but she clarified that it had been filmed two days before she received the call.
“A lot of people thought I was released, and that was me saying that I was released, but I hadn’t gotten the call yet,” she clarified. “[It came] maybe, like, two days later, maybe. No, because they were making their cuts the next day and then it just lumped me in with that. So, yeah, I don’t think that that promo stirred the pot. I mean, it could have. I’ll never know.”
Despite the abrupt end to her WWE run, Shotzi appears focused and motivated to return to the ring on her own terms. She has already gained a strong fanbase through her work in NXT and on the main roster and is expected to generate buzz on the independent scene or potentially with another promotion.
