Top 3 Moments Of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

On Saturday, January 25th, 2025, WWE returned to San Antonio, TX for the first Saturday Night’s Main Event of the year. The show was headlined by GUNTHER putting his World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Jey Uso.

We also saw Rhea Ripley put the Women’s World Championship on the line against Nia Jax, Bron Breakker put the Intercontinental Championship on the line against Sheamus, Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens have a contract signing, and so much more. So, what were the top three moments of the night?

3. Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens sign the contract, HBK gets physical

About halfway into the show, the Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, met his #1 Contender, Kevin Owens in a contract signing. These two gladiators will meet in a ladder match at the Royal Rumble next Saturday, in a rivalry that got very personal. This was a fun segment that saw both the Winged Eagle and the Undisputed WWE Championships hung up in the air.

As is the case with every other contract signing in WWE history, it never ends without a little physicality. After the titles were hoisted in the air and the contracts were signed, Owens sucker punched Rhodes who was shaking WWE legend, Shawn Michaels, hand at the time.

Ultimately, the segment ended with Owens eating a “Sweet Chin Music” by the person who invented it, Shawn Michaels. It wasn’t without good reason though, as Owens mocked Michaels earlier in the segment, saying he “did more” for the Winged Eagle Championship than Michaels ever did. This was a solid segment which set the tone for their upcoming match next Saturday.

2. Jacob Fatu and Braun Strowman Collide

In a dream match of two of WWE’s biggest and baddest men, Jacob Fatu met Braun Strowman in an absolute dog fight. Fatu and Strowman was one of WWE’s biggest announced matches for this showing of Saturday Night’s Main Event, and it didn’t disappoint.

What we’ve seen Jacob Fatu do so far in the WWE is otherworldly. Fatu took the fight to Strowman like we’ve seen only a very few other men do. The match between Fatu and Strowman ultimately ended with Fatu being disqualified for throwing the referee out of the ring and continuing to take the fight to the 6’8 “monster among men.”

Fatu left Strowman bloodied, bruised, and battered. Despite the loss, this was a statement showing by Fatu at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Finally, Fatu left the ring but only after hitting a trio of moonsaults on Strowman. This seemingly wrote Strowman off TV, but in doing so, it made Fatu look so much more dominant.

1. GUNTHER and Jey Uso put on a MOTY Contender

In the main event of the first Saturday Night’s Main Event of 2025, we saw GUNTHER put his World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Jey Uso. Uso has arguably been on one of his best runs lately, and this was arguably his biggest match to date. With the fans firmly behind him, could this have been Uso’s time?

GUNTHER starts the match quick and tries to take the fight right to his challenger. Uso did everything he could and dug down deeper than ever before to stay in this match. When GUNTHER hit his patented powerbomb, he was shocked when the master of the “YEET” kicked out at two.

Ultimately, two big power bombs put Jey Uso away and retained the World Heavyweight Championship for GUNTHER. Uso came close to winning the championship on several occasions in this match, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. This was match of the night, and it could even be a match of the year contender before all is said and done.
