Wrestling legend Tommy Dreamer had high praise for AEW’s latest Beach Break edition of Dynamite, calling the show’s opening match “frigging off the charts” during his appearance on Busted Open After Dark. Dreamer also spotlighted the return of Skye Blue, emphasizing the emotional impact of her comeback and the strength of the AEW women’s division.

The opening match, a star-studded clash featuring Will Ospreay, “Hangman” Adam Page, Josh Alexander, and Konosuke Takeshita—with Don Callis on commentary—earned rave reviews from Dreamer.

“The opening match was frigging off the charts,” Dreamer stated. “Of course, it’s what you’re going to get when you have a Will Ospreay, Hangman Adam Page, Josh Alexander and Takeshita… Awesome, awesome, 30 minutes of exactly what it’s supposed to be—professional wrestling.”

Dreamer praised Hangman Page for embracing a darker persona, calling him “very underappreciated,” and highlighted Will Ospreay as a next-level performer: “He just does things at a different level.” On Takeshita, Dreamer said, “An amazing in-ring worker,” while noting a need for further character evolution.

He also applauded Josh Alexander’s early AEW tenure:

“Josh has been thrown into the fire… he carried a company and he could do that in AEW, but he needs those opportunities. And he shined with all of these opportunities.”

Later in the show, Dreamer turned his attention to Skye Blue, who returned from injury in a match that impressed the ECW original.

“I thought the match was really, really good. Love seeing Skye Blue back. She looks great. She’s in great shape… I like the change in her look,” Dreamer said, adding, “Coming back from an injury like that, which could be somewhat career-ending, she’s been gone a long time, but something like that helps you get behind a character.”

Dreamer sees top-tier babyface potential in Skye:

“If you have the opportunity now to push somebody who’s back… you’re fresh again and not stale. You can do a whole lot of cooler stuff with her.”

He wrapped his thoughts by praising Toni Storm and the AEW women’s roster for their safety and effort during multi-person spots:

“Toni Storm sacrificed her body for every single woman during every single dive she hit… The women are doing the right thing.”

In summary, Dreamer called AEW’s Beach Break a success, especially due to its hot start and character-driven performances.

“That first match was off the charts. Really, really enjoyed it.”
