The Motor City Machine Guns—Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin—recently broke their silence on the buzz surrounding their critically acclaimed TLC match against The Street Profits and #DIY on SmackDown in Las Vegas just before WrestleMania 41. Despite fan hopes that the bout would take place on the Grandest Stage of Them All, the tag team classic aired during the go-home episode of SmackDown.
Appearing on SHAK Wrestling, the WWE duo addressed the fan discourse with poise and perspective.
Chris Sabin appreciated the passionate fan reaction and saw it as a testament to their work:
“I just think it showed that the fans cared, which is a good thing because that SmackDown was in Las Vegas, which is where WrestleMania was,” Sabin said. “Many of the same fans that were at that SmackDown were going to go to WrestleMania… but that just showed that they cared.”
Sabin added that the overwhelming response following the match made the experience all the more rewarding:
“Then to see the response that we had from the fans and everyone after the match, I think it worked out the way it was meant to work out, and I was very happy with everything. I wouldn’t change a thing.”
Alex Shelley, ever focused on the future, echoed his partner’s pride in the bout but stressed the importance of staying grounded.
“I think it’s in one ear out the other. It’s nice that we got these accolades, but at the same time, those are done with and they don’t benefit us going forward,” Shelley explained.
Shelley emphasized the mindset that has made the Motor City Machine Guns one of wrestling’s most respected teams:
“So we got to stay grounded. We got to stay humble. We got to work even harder, because if there’s another one, you better believe we’re going to want to top it.”
Despite not taking place at WrestleMania itself, the TLC showdown has become one of WWE’s most talked-about tag matches in recent memory, showcasing the Machine Guns’ seamless transition to the WWE stage and reminding fans why they’re tag team royalty.
