AEW President and CEO Tony Khan recently spoke with Alistair McGeorge from Metro UK about various topics.
One of the subjects discussed was whether he would have considered having AEW World Tag Team Champion Adam Copeland face 17-time World Champion John Cena during Cena’s farewell run.
Khan said, “I was never asked, and as far as I know, Adam was never asked, so it’s hard to say. But when there have been opportunities to collaborate, I have been collaborative in the past. I never got asked, but if I had been presented a plan and the dates and the information of what was going on, yeah, I would have supported it.”
On recent reports of the company having to reduce its pyro usage at All In: London due to an official emergency warning in the U.K.:
“That’s the first I’ve heard of any of that, so I can’t speculate.”
On how he truly believes the very best pro wrestlers in the world are competing in AEW right now:
“There are so many great wrestlers around the world, and so many of the very best professional wrestlers compete in All Elite Wrestling. I always say AEW is where the best wrestle, and I really believe that. I think that the very best wrestlers in the world are competing in AEW right now. It’s exciting that so many of the best wrestlers outside of the company are trying to get into AEW.”
On Will Ospreay:
“I think Will’s one of the greatest British wrestlers I’ve ever seen, and I think Will’s one of the best wrestlers I’ve ever seen, but Will has never been the AEW World Champion, and something that is incredible is, no Englishman has ever won a world title in England.”
